Occasional regulated fasting: is it good for you?

and how do you do it safely?

you might actually gain weight since your body would "think" you are starving and would store more food as fat as a result.

I am thinking of a more gradual approach.

The aim is not really to lose weight but to flush out toxins with juice or water fasting. And to give my digestive system a break.

Next day's diet will only consist of vegetables (no carbs) so as not to shock the body.

It will be a three day process and I will be doing it over a weekend.

I got curious because the outgoing commander of the Afghanistan forces, Gen. McChrystal eats only once a day and has a reputation for monk-like asceticism as mentioned in the Rolling stone article. Maybe it puts the mind into hunter-gatherer mode and gives you a heightened sense of awareness.
It's not really fasting but this got me thinking.

I also found an article on regulated fasting:

    just a thought.
