A family member has leg ulcer (non healing wound). She is not diabetic though. It's very high maintenance because of the wound care. Her doctor referred her to another MD surgeon who does acupuncture. I didn't know that MDs are now performing acupuncture in the hospital...

I'm still hesitant but my Mom said to give it a try.

yes there are, and yes they do.
"dept of alternative medicine". some, tongue in cheek, call it the "department of last resort".

i was not trained for it, so i do not believe in it too well.
which is totally different from saying, "it don't work".

not necessarily! it's just... an "alternative".

if "alternative" med worked then it wouldn't be alternative anymore it would be REAL

accupuncture has some proven use in pain management. other than that's it's about as effective as prayers

the label "alternative" was coined by physicians trained in the traditional western methods. the label did not come from the chinese or whoever started it on this planet.
point of view lang, is all.

and yes, a number of real MDs do practice acupuncture. they have decided that it has its uses.
"it is difficult to argue against success."

and if one realizes just how old chinese civilization is, and how old western medicine is...

consider: we know nothing about human civilization 50,000 years ago.

I've tried it once in a Buddhist temple in Chinatown (free service, you just need to pay for the needles)

I was having a really bad shoulder pain... (I'm allergic to pain relievers)

A day after the acupuncture, my shoulders were even worse! Couldn't move!

A day later... The pain was gone...

    as an aside.

    i have this chinese colleague.
he says that, when they were young, and they got sick, their parents made them drink this horribly foul-tasting medicine...
but they unfailingly got well, the next day.

"just because we do not know anything about it, does not mean it does not exist."
