The EC has been a weak conference for about 2 years now.

Kung walang lilipat na big-name marquee free agents, it'll stay that way. Ang mahirap lang is that only NY or Brooklyn is a good free agent destination if you want big money and the lifestyle that comes with the city. It doesn't guarantee that the player will win a championship. So, everybody goes West, where the teams the likes of Dallas, Houston, LAL, etc. are attractive because their owners are willing to spend (even on luxury tax for being over the cap) to win. Plus, the ambiance and nightlife is pretty good.
