Chuck DeVoe, co-founder of Indiana Pacers dies at age 83 - ESPNPacers co-founder DeVoe dies
INDIANAPOLIS -- Chuck DeVoe, part of a group of businessmen who founded the Indianapolis Pacers, has died. He was 83.
Leppert Mortuary and Crematory Services funeral director Angela Johnson says DeVoe died Saturday. She did not know the cause of death. The Indianapolis Star reported family members said he died of melanoma. A moment of silence was held before the Pacers played the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday.
DeVoe was team president from 1969-74 and board chairman from 1974-75. Bill York, the longtime head of statistics, says the Pacers wouldn't be in Indianapolis if DeVoe and his partners hadn't been so dedicated to keeping the team in the city.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Woodstock Club in Indianapolis on Jan. 12.

NBA -- Derrick Rose to have surgery, will be out indefinitelyNBA -- Derrick Rose to have surgery, will be out indefinitely
CHICAGO -- Nineteen months after returning from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on his left knee, Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose will miss more time off the court this season after injuring his right knee Friday night in Portland.
After an MRI taken in Los Angeles, where the Bulls played and lost to the Clippers at the Staples Center on Sunday, revealed that Rose has a medial meniscus tear to his right knee. He will be out indefinitely, the Bulls said in an official statement.
The latest mishap occurred late in third quarter of the Bulls' 98-95 loss to the Trail Blazers at the Moda Center. Rose was trying to make a cut in a non-contact play. He left the court unable to put weight on the right leg and was seen leaving the arena in crutches.
"I know how much work he has put into his rehab and the type of person he is. So I feel for him because of all the things he does and what he means to the team," coach Tom Thibodeau told the Chicago Tribune.
Rose has not been made available for comment but he is headed back to Chicago and will have surgery tomorrow. Bulls team physician, Brian Cole, who also repaired Derrick's left ACL, is a leading candidate to perform the procedure, the Tribune reported.
The 25-year old Rose, a former MVP and three-time All-Star, tore his ACL in April 2012. He missed 19 months before returning this past preseason to the delight of Bulls fans all over the world.
After a challenging start this season where he showed some rust by shooting poorly and coughing up too many turnovers, Rose began to find his stride of late, scoring 19 and 20 points respectively in his last two games.
