things are heating up in the tournament. according to the philstar, mika immonen and jeremy jones almost got in to a fisticuff after their match. the two apparently jawed at each other after the fin beat jones in a close match. the verbal tussle agitated jones' entourage enough, forcing them to go after immonen a few moments later. fortunately, the tense situation eventually cooled down w/ nobody getting hurt.

and then there's the colorful and vociferous earl strickland. he's back to his usual blame-everybody-but-me notorious loud mouth self. nag tatalak nanaman daw siya sa interviews

[SIZE=2]The event, the most important pool tournament of the year, is now reduced to 64 for the straight knock-out stages of the competition, which is being staged at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Manila.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=2]Philippines, the host nation, has 13 players in the last 64 shake up, closely followed by Chinese Taipei with 10. Disappointingly, the USA, with an original entry of 11, now only has four survivors in round two.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=2]Some of the most impressive performances on day four came from Chinese Taipei players, especially in group 15 where all three of their representatives - Wu Yu-lun (above), Lee Kun-fang and Chao Fong-pang - advanced.[/SIZE]

Vietnamese unknown dumps Earl 'The Pearl'

MANILA, Philippines -- Ex-world champion and top US billiards player Earl "The Pearl" Strickland was sensationally dumped out of the World Pool Championships here Wednesday by unsung Vietnamese Luong Chi Dung.

The trash-talking American bowed out, 8-10 in the round of 64, blaming a rickety chair for his early exit. :clap:

Strickland, 46, had just allowed the pint-sized Vietnamese to draw level at 5-5, erasing his early 3-0 lead, when he tipped over as he sat down during a break.

"I'm gonna lose this game because of this chair!" he said, yelling at tournament officials. "You've got to stabilize this chair."
