Can the MSI K8N-SLI motherboard support 3 sticks of ram?

My MB is MSI K8N SLI. Right now, I have 2pcs of 512mb ram installed. I want to add another 1gb ram. Is this possible with my motherboard?

Sa pagkakaalala ko kasi sa mga lumang motherboards, dapat by pairs ang kinakabit na memory module. Pwede na ba kahit hindi na by pair ngayon?

pwede, afaik having the same pairs with same speeds ay magiging dual bridged ang memory, so if 3 sticks lang at different sizes mag default to single bridged (or whatever they call it) na ang memory mo.

para sakin la naman syado maramdaman kahit naka dual bridged ang memory.

two sticks would be operating as dual channel (must be same spec) while the other one is in single channel mode

dual channel i believe is the term. as long as they have the same speed and are of the same type, they should work together. best thing to do is to try them out, if they work then good for you.

pag dual channel pwedeng mix, 256MB PC266 ipareha mo sa 512MB PC400 ... etc. same with the DDR2 memory.

boybi, perif youre not after the 5% or so performance gain from Dual Channel, you can put any combination of ram into the mobo.

Yep puwede maglagay ng isa pang 1GB.

I will only be adding one 1gb stick to the extra slots. Will this be ok? Or should I put in 2 512mb sticks? Mahal na masyado kung 2 1gb sticks. Meron na bang 2gb rams?

IIRC, if you use sticks of varying speeds, the low speed is the one that is utilized by all, so if you use 2 sticks of 333 and 2 sticks of 400, the 333 speed is the one used. but yes, they will run together, though not as well as if all used the same speed.

although mas ok na bumili ka ng 2 512MB RAM na same brand & speed nung existing mo para ma utilize mo yung dual channel capability.

So kung 1 stick na same speed dun sa existing ko, hindi sya mag dual channel?

And if different brand hindi rin sya mag dual channel?

nope... hindi na dual channel... dapat either 2 or 4 ang memory stick na nakalagay para dual channel.

and dapat same brand para dual channel (according sa manual).

Hindi din pala naka dual channel yung existing 2 sticks of 512mb ram ko so bumili na ako ng 1 1gb ram. Gumana naman.

5% lang ba talaga ang improvement ng dual channel sa single channel?

It should be able to take 3 sticks of ram except the default mode will be single channel. I also have a K8N (non-SLI). I have to find the manual, though.
