Windows 8.1 release date, news and features

Microsoft continues to reveal details about the comprehensive update to Windows 8, now known as Windows 8.1 and formerly known as Windows Blue.
Windows 8.1 will be launched at the Microsoft Build developer conference in San Francisco on June 26 and the final version will be available as a free downloadable Windows 8 update.

Microsoft also said last month that there would be a preview version available before full release which we'll get on that day in late June.
The "first look" blog update posted by Microsoft's Antoine Leblond in May doesn't talk about a Start menu. It does, however, say that the Start "tip" will change to "be the familiar Windows logo" and always be visible when you're in the Desktop mode of the OS - so the Start button is back. Kinda.

Recommendation lang for those planning to get that new OS

Please buy a notebook or a desktop pc with touchscreen to fully enjoy its features

Kahit na ibalik nila old desktop use majority pa rin sa feature set nya is touch centric

Correct. may mga available na touchscreen laptop/notebook which made me think that non-touchscreen laptop/notebook will become obsolete in the future. Macbook Pro kaya kailan maging touchscreen?

Excited and can't wait to get my hands on 8.1 RTM.

The touchscreen is a "nice to have" feature and not a show-stopper at all.

I imagine that a lot of people will continue to use older hardware that was designed around Win7 or even XP, to run Win8.x. Win8 is actually more streamlined than Win7 or XP. To their credit, MS is not lying when they said that Win8 can potentially run faster even on hardware designed for Win7.

Microsoft is really improving on their coding... they seem to be doing less recycling and more rebuilding the code essentially from scratch.

Sorry, you either need a Technet or MSDN subscription to access the link. It's just been offered to devs for now.
