One of the features removed from the PC version is the dedicated servers. Only multiplayer servers of Infinity Ward for COD MW2. No more private servers...

For the PC version, Infinity Ward decided to implement a matchmaking service similar to what console versions have: the IWNET working through Steam. This system however takes away the dedicated servers which means there will be no more mods or community made maps. Also, since the multiplayer runs with Steam, the PunkBuster anti-cheat system has been replaced by VAC.[28] It has also been confirmed that the PC version will share the same 18-player cap as the console versions (max. 9 vs. 9 matches).[29]
    Modern Warfare 'set for record'

The widely-anticipated video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been tipped to be the biggest selling video game in history.

Hundreds of gamers gathered at shops around the world ahead of its release at 00:00 GMT.

Retailer HMV has predicted more than 1m UK sales in the first week, 20% more than previous record holder Grand Theft Auto 4 (GTA4).

Online shop Amazon said the pre-order sales were 50% higher than GTA4.

Play.com say that in the run up to launch it was getting more than 150 pre-orders per minute.

The publishers of Modern Warfare 2, Activision, are cautiously predicting total sales of 3m across the UK whilst some analysts believe it could sell 10m copies globally in the run up to Christmas.

HMV stores in the UK opened at midnight to allow eager gamers to get their hands on the game as soon as possible.

Some gamers compared the London launch to a film premiere.
"We estimate that the game will exceed 1m UK sales in its first week, which would be a new record," said HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo.

The firm also confirmed that its stock of the collectors edition, Modern Warfare 2: Prestige, sold out online pre-release.

Yeah just like the console versions I guess... One of the advantages of the PC versions of prior games is the ability to use private servers but now just like Xbox 360 having to play using Xbox Live so will PC users play only with Infinity Ward's servers.

I don't have the game yet, not in a hurry but I will likely get it for the PC.

No more private servers? See ya.

That's why we''ve stuck with the Battlefield series. I like the option to play vs relatives only via dedicated servers or LAN for that matter.

I might still buy CoD: MW2 if it has decent singleplayer.

Or we might add ArmA 2 for multiplayer since the AI won't be an issue at all. Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising also has no dedicated server support at this moment. But, it seems like the developers are working on one. So, that might be another game we'll consider.

We've stuck with private servers because the tiny number of players keeps the action absolutely fluid. It also keeps the screaming juvenile brats out. My two trash-talking nephews are bad enough

I'm not a big fan of Steam either. But, several of the pc games I hold dear have gone to it. So Steam is a necessary evil.

I'll be playing on a console.

And I'm prepared to get my ass whooped by l33t gamers as I suck at playing FPS with a controller.

I've heard the single player campaign is only 4 hours long which is disappointing.

playing on a controller is hard enough (I'm a complete MW n00b), is there some element of "auto-aim" on the console version of MW2? and can I turn it on or off during multiplayer?

From my own experiences with the consoles at home, it's a matter of getting familiar with the gamepads.

It's the same with the keyboard. It didn't seem too long ago when the keyboard keys A-W-D-S seemed strange to me.

That said, I've grown quite accustomed with keyboard and mouse for first person shooters.

I normally prefer gamepads for 3rd-person games such as the Zelda and Tomb Raider games.

As far as auto aim..... I've played Battlefield: Bad Company on my nephew's PS3 (the closest to Battlefield 2 on the pc) and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat on the PS2 (closer to the pc BF1942 + DCX).

I watched my nephew play BF2 for the PS2 online a long time ago. He was using a sniper rifle and plinked off enemies with one shot without me noticing any real aiming. That tells me there's auto aim.

Razor 1911's version is still having Steam intact. Why they
choose to keep Steam intact on the release is a good question
    to us
    .

Here you have a PROPER cracked release, with no need to have
    Steam installed
at all and no strange install measures at all

these are the multiplayer LAN games that I played with my nephews that doesn't need steam/online registrations. to play online, we just use Hamachi or Garena.

    running on windows 7

    Need for speed: Shift
    Call of Duty 5
    Left 4 dead
    C&C: KW
    Resident Evil 5

currently having problem with killing floor Lan multiplayer

That wouldn't work for me. I prefer the private server with relatives only. At least, I can cuss my nephews out and they'd behave because I know where they live and I visit them from time to time. I need a new headset though. I think I broke it the last time I got pissed off. Uh, that along with the retractable feet of my keyboard.

Coop? Searching around, I think it has coop, but not in the campaign. Rather it's more on individual missions based on the single player mode.

It's only been one day and there is already wall hack and aimbot out.
seeing this bastards, playing on a private server exclusive to friends makes sense.
