    Nov 2022 article...

Siguro if you bought a property that's off the grid tapos walang cell signal, then the cost makes sense.

Satellite phones/connection are good for off grid areas.

We used to have Iridium satellite phones and it was convenient during the, errrr, "land banking" days and cell phone coverage was during the Motorola "Hello Mr. Vargas" days

But with more cell sites coming up, maybe the need for these satellite connections will only be during times of dire calamities - provided charged and powered up ang equipment mo.

The article said that it's an enterprise plan and maritime plan. This is what I'm seeing for residential plan.

Great for beach houses, coastal communities, island communities (local govt can buy a few), remote areas, ships , yachts, etc.

Its really a niche market here. But extremely useful.

Sobrang mura na yan compared to other satellite data.

For marine use the big initial cash outlay is for the equipment that can track the constellation automatically so you can get service while in motion.
Enterprise/overland use AFAIK has service anywhere, but not necessarily while in motion.

Here's an example of the existing option before starlink: Thuraya Prepaid 30GB Plan - Satcom Direct

    $4200 for 30GB pre-paid, with 144kbps to 444kbps speed.

They sell at least three types of antennas: Standard, High Performance, and Flat High Performance.

The overall antenna designs are practically identical. They all employ phased arrays to do beam-forming to transmit and receive as it tracks the satellite(s) it is currently locked on to. The difference lies with the performance and other capabilities like max throughput, wider field of view (to do away with the motor), and suitability for use in harsh environment.

For most mobility use cases (maritime, RV, etc.), the Flat High Performance model makes the most sense as it has no moving parts that can break while in motion. It worked around not needing motorized articulation by having an antenna with a wider field of view (to be able to lock-on to more satellites).
