I tried to use the UTP cable as a phone line for my DSL modem, but when i tried to call that phone, I get one ring and then a fast busy tone. But I can use it to make a call.
Does the twisting of the wires in a UTP cable cause this?

UTP cable as a phone line? hindi ata pwede un, malaki ang utp cable compare sa RJ11(phone line).
UTP - Unshielded twisted Pair. (4 pairs of wire) used for network connection and also can be used for phones lines. It can even used 4 phone lines in 1 UTP cable.
Correct Sir,
UTP cables can be use for both DATA and VOICE.
Sa mga buildings and offices CAT5e yung cable na ginagamit for PC, hubs and Phone. Here in our office CAT5e lahat pati phone.
magkaiba ang utp cable sa ordinary phone cable.
like mile2 stated, pwede nga sya sa voice at data.
it's often used nga sa corporate setting. minsan kasi connected din ang phone sa PC like sa mga call centers. madalas din applied yun sa advanced telephony.
san mo ba balak gamitin yan cable?
pwede yan. ang problem mo lang is yung socket na gagamitan mo rj45 dapat rj45 , rj11, etc. should be the same... get hi-end model para you can put rj11/45/48,etc... in one socket.
or utp then rj11 gamitin mo dulo 4 na lines din yan.. hehe
yup. your ordinary telephone cable consists of 6 copper wires (3 pairs). the most common UTP which is the CAT5 cable consists of 4 pairs. this is typically used for data networking. if you're using dsl, this is the line going to your computer. UTP can vary from 25-pair to 50-pair and so on...
Ganito kasi yun. The phone line for the DSL is in another room (Room 1). And there is a network cable (UTP) from Room 1 going to my room (Room 2). Malayo ang Room 1 from Room 2, so everytime na magdisconnect DSL ko, I have to go to Room 1 and turn the modem OFF and ON. Nakakapagod na especially kung napapadalas ang disconnection. So I tried to place the modem to Room 2 and use the UTP cable as the phone line. I can get connected to the internet but calls can't come through. Mag ring lang sya once and then mag fast busy tone na.
Ganito sya kahit hindi nakaconnect yung kabilang dulo ng UTP cable (which acts as phone line) sa modem.
try to check the line. meron tester para sa utp cable. machecheck nung tester kung nagshift ba yun wiring or kung may disrupted na wire sa utp mo. its either that or baka yun dsl modem mo ay may config na kelangan ayusin. usually di ba may ipapa-log-in sa yo na ip address para ma-ayos yun config ng modem mo. baka kasi naka-set dun na block ang incoming calls. try to call your isp dahil sila ang makapag-aassist ng mabuti regarding your dsl modem. maari rin kasi nag-reset yun configuration ng modem mo
No problem sa modem and the UTP cable. Nakakapag internet naman ako using the UTP as phone line, hindi lang talaga makareceive ng incoming calls, outgoing pwede.
Anyway nagawan ko na ng paraan ito. Ginamit ko yung existing phone line to my room and I used 2 data splitters para pwede ko pang gamitin yung phone dito sa room. Bale gumamit ako ng 1 data splitter dun sa entrance ng phone line, meron fax na nakakabit dun. Then another data splitter dito sa room ko for the phone. Wala naman naging problem, nakaka receive ako ng fax and calls without the internet being disconnected or slowing down.
