This is not really a complaint but more of an inquiry.
Last year or so, I can still use my iPhone 4 to connect to Smart's 3g and even watch NBA live streams at acceptable (at least to me) quality. I can download files at decent speed (maybe 80KB/s) hehehe. All of this using my prepaid SIM I purchased around 2002.

Then suddenly the 3g signal became useless. Fortunately, wifey gave me a samsung tablet and I discovered the the H and H+ signals which my iphone seems to be incapable of detecting.

To make the story short, when 3g appears on my iphone and samsung, there is signal but you cannot really browse the net unlike before using my iphone.

So what happened to Smart 's 3g? Did it became obsolete?

The H and H+ are faster versions of the 3g signal. The iPhone4 I think is capable of detecting these (HSDPA) but only shows the 3g symbol is because these 2 are basically still based on 3g technology.

Now about the internet connection speed talagang mabagal lang ang smart. I have a smartbro pocket wifi and sobrang bagal ng connection kahit naka 3g. I tried getting the sim card and used it in my note 8.0 same predicament even if the signal shows the H and H+ symbols sobrang bagal pa rin.

    Bros,

Just to share lang yung technicalities. In Telecoms H+, LTE and 3G signals have different highways of communication. In case your using an LTE capable phone then suddenly you see the 3G signal, it means there could be a problem on the LTE equipment of Smart/Sun or Globe, knowing MM is already an LTE enabled network.

But if you have these signals on your phone yet internet is slow then most probably the problem is congestion especially during peak hours. Report this immediately to their hotline so they can expand the bandwidth, if were pertaining to roads it's like increasing from 2 lanes to 3 lanes to accommodate more vehicles to pass through.

Slowest data speed can be encounter in case of GPRS (2G) feels like dial up speed. Worst case if you don't have a signal at all, it means your serving BTS(cell site) has power related problems or transmission concerns(road) and the next site is far to provide you the required service.

    Hope this helps.

its because of what telcos said FUP. kahit ano sim ilagay mo pag na reach mo na ang max browsing capacity (ex 1gb) automatic switch ang speed mo sa 2G. ntc ang itinuturo nila nagbigay ng memo pero unfair ito lalo na sa mga existing subs na naka unli data plan kasi last january pa lang ito na implement. kaya pina pre term ko yung gamit namin na mobile wifi (at nag contest ako na di ko pay ang pre term) kasi ng nag sub ako wala naman ang FUP now nag implement sila pati on contract affected kaya unfair yun.

so if you havent experienced it before (bagal mobile internet) then na eencounter mo sya ngayon ang term ng telcos dyan ay FUP.

    Bandwidth has a price.

Telcos need to limit usage to avoid congestion.

If you want unli bw for the sole purpose of DL in a konstant speed, then go with the leased line technology.

PACKING SHEET! PACK YOU MVP!

I think it is safe to say that telecommunications along with all other utilities and services are poor in the Philippines. To add insult to injury, we also have some of the highest rates in the region so I guess we can always expect this to be the case so long as these companies don't have any real competition. We can always expect higher rates paid for bad service.

Wala penalty and recently wala rebate.

In the end there will be only 2 Telcos here, Pangilinans and Ayalas. The Ayalas got larger bandwidth now so expect upgrades in few months.
