Are you showing us a "Router" or 3G wireless USB modem?

The black USB stick (2eZ) is the actual router a lot smaller than SUN 3G USB modem

Here's a screen shot of GUI based router config.

This USB N Router can also be used as simple Wireless LAN for your Desktop PC or old laptop without WIFI.

So how do you connect the WAN side for that USB router?... via WiFi from another router or does it use the connection from the notebook PC?

Can it operate independent of a PC (like plugging it to a USB power supply)?

You can actually choose WAN connection from the config menu. This Wireless N router is fully independent from your notebook WIFI LAN.
Sample below on how to configure with SUN 3G wireless. Clicking the WAN drop down selector button will show you all your WAN connectivity.

For SmartBro, no configuration is needed, WAN is automatically selected.

Have not tried it, but it needs a PC to configure.

My Daughter was using it on their school group studies using single Sun 3G connection. So simple and straight forward configuration from simple security to more advanced security enabled.
