My Mom is using a Nokia phone for texting and calling. I forgot the model but it's like the 5110 For viber and camera she uses a Samsung tablet. It looks like both her Nokia and Samsung which we bought in 2012 won't last any longer.

So I'm thinking of buying my Mom a smartphone. It has to be big enough for ease of use. It will only be used for texting, calling, viber and taking pictures (no need for fancy camera since her Samsung is very basic). Yesterday my Uncle in his 80s was complaining about how he finds it hard to use a smartphone because of the swiping and opening of apps hahaha. So he uses a qwerty NOKIA.

I want to get my Mom a basic phone that will last at least 5 years.

All my tech purchases were based on Tsikot recommendations and I'm hoping for another good purchase

    TIA

Bought my senior mom a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 not sure how much dyan.

    Her requirements are:

needs to have a good camera for selfies
can play games like candy crush
    Has FB and messenger

    She's a happy camper

Passed our old S5 to my mom last year...
Just made sure it had a simple launcher/keyboard and only the apps she needed were installed...

I wouldn't recommend a specific phone... But just buy her something running Nougat.

+1 on giving your mom your old phone.

Note 2 will be great lalo they can zoom the text to a very large size.

Texting will also be better with a biggish keyboard, haptic feedback and the conversation style texting that the old phones don't have.

J5 or J7 kung ganun. The slower/budget samsung phones can be frustrating to use.

Never used the chinese phones so I can't recommend them.

Naka note 2 ka di ba? Give it to her na lang then you go buy a new one

I gave my 2 senior aunts 7 inches phone. Gusto kasi nila tablet. Sabi ko yan na lang 7 inches. Phone na malaki. Tuwa naman sila dahil simple use lang din nila. It will be a slow phone for us na maraming pinaggagamitan ng smartphone

I bought my wife a xiaomi redmi at 4.8k sa lazada last august. Mas maganda cam nya sa vivo ko and mas user friendly o.s nya. Naka snap dragon chips na sya. Bang for the buck. Better than my vivo y5

My opinion - old people have an easier time using iPhones than Androids. So I'd recommend to get an iPhone that fits your budget. Used iPhone 6S units sell for around 12k these days, all the way to a brand new 60k iPhone X.

I agree with this pero mukhang wala sa budget yung iphones and I'm not super sure I'd like to consider 2nd hand phones. I've taken very good care of my phones pero minsan nagloloko parin. My old S4 was giving up after a little over a year old. I think the most demanding thing I asked that phone to do was to play temple run. The phone had close to 0 dings, scratches and bumps so I'm quite sure it was a hardware issue. Pero I guess the phones now are a little more durable vs before, though you wouldn't know how the previous owner used it.

Also, my opinion also is... bigger screen = better for old people. Pero coming from basic phones, they tend not to appreciate the size at first.

Lazada will be having a sale on Samsung phones (not sure what the discounted price will be)

    SAMSUNG GALAXY J8
    ₱15,670.00

    Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 32GB
    ₱9,790.00

    The J8 is 6" while the J7 is 5.5"

Is the .5" difference really worth the P6k price difference? My Mom will only use the phone for calls, text, viber and nothing else.

Also, is it okay to buy a phone in Lazada?

Lazada? Never experienced lazada buying a phone. Make sure the phone comes with Samsung warranty.

Musta vision ni mom? She might appreciate a larger display if medyo malabo na mata.

Is there a way for iOS where you can set the Apps to Auto-Update when on Wi-Fi? - I can't seem to make this work (my 1st issue against iOS for Snrs)

2nd - how did you set-up iMessage? or did you just turn it off...

I'm leaning towards giving my mom an iPhone since overseas relatives only know 1 option of doing video calls... Facetime
