My opinion - old people have an easier time using iPhones than Androids. So I'd recommend to get an iPhone that fits your budget. Used iPhone 6S units sell for around 12k these days, all the way to a brand new 60k iPhone X.

Is there a way for iOS where you can set the Apps to Auto-Update when on Wi-Fi? - I can't seem to make this work (my 1st issue against iOS for Snrs)

2nd - how did you set-up iMessage? or did you just turn it off...

Settings -> iTunes & App Stores. Turn on Updates. Make sure Use Cellular Data is off.

For my parents, I just set up their FB messenger and WhatsApp. This way, I can still receive their messages even if I’m not on my iOS device.
