    It took me sometime to figure this out and so i think it's worth the share for P1i owners.

    In order for the WLAN connected P1i to receive web emails and on this case from gmail account. You should first "enable IMAP" on your gmail account settings.

    Using your desktop:
    1. access your gmail account
    2. go to settings
    3. select "forwarding POP3 and IMAP"
    4. check "enable IMAP"

    You can now create an email account with your P1i using SE web guide and/or if you had one already, heregoes the settings.

    1. click main menu, control panel, messaging, email accounts.

    2. under basic tab;
    account name: Gmail
    your name: your option
    email address: yourGmailID*gmail.com
    connection type: select "IMAP"
    push email: you can check this as you wish, otherwise you'll have to select the "get and send" button everytime to update your phone with new mail. saves battery consumption a bit.

    3. under inbox tab;
    incoming server address: imap.gmail.com
    username: yourGmailID*gmail.com
    password: your Gmail password
    download restrictions: just headers (your choice)
    smaller than: your choice
    receiving using group: select internet (your configured internet connection)

    4. under outbox tab;
    outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com
    use SMTP authentication: checked
    use inbox log in details: checked
    sens using group: same as receive (your option)

    Now click MORE, Advanced and check the settings to;

    incoming:
    secure connection: SSL
    incoming mail port: 993

    outgoing:
    secure connection: SSL
    outgoing mail port: 465
    use MIME encoding: checked

    Click save and voila, you're good to go.

    Thanks for the heads up! Will these settings also work for the P990?

    Alternatively, you can also download a 3rd party gmail app. Not sure if there's one out for UIQ3.1 though.

    Google has their gmail app over at gmail.com/app
    Just browse there using your phone and it should offer a download.

    Also about that "push email" function, that will probably consume more battery power, rather than save. It means that the phone will try to connect to gmail every once in a while, as opposed to doing it manually where the phone will only connect when you want it to (probably around the time you read your mail).

    Over the course of an 8 hour day, if you check your email once using get-and-send, then the phone connects just once. Using push email, it could connect 8 times, maybe 16 times in a single day.

    Yes, the settings also work for P990i, as long as your unit are properly connected to the internet.

    My bro's has the same unit working on these settings.
