... End of the 1950's and early 1960's while significant strides in the field of scientific experiments around the world and the USSR. In those years, began the bold experiments of Soviet scientists on animals. At the Moscow University and the Academy of Sciences have performed a number of pioneering research. And already in 1950, Russian scientist Vladimir Demikhov surprised the world when transplanted a dog's head on another dog. Two-headed dog lived for a month.

Hmmm, was this supposed to be an experiment for space exploration or terrestrial purposes?

    probably...

they did plenty of body mechanics experiments during WWII and the cold war

(it's also how they were able to come up with the Systema martial arts discipline)

but based on these documents, I think it would be strictly CNS experiments and the pictures don't seem to indicate any prolonged use without oxygen supply from the environment

I'm a bit skeptical though with the way they made the hydraulics compared to actual aerospace projects(which are the state of the art of USSR at that time)

Dang! ... wouldn't the initial acceleration from being launched from a mortar cannon be enough to injure internal organs?

depends on how much g's it generates

if it goes across the length of the body, it would cause G-LOC and severe internal injuries

if it goes across the width of the body, it is much more tolerable
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

Experiments in the Revival of Organisms (1940)

This disturbing film records the successful experiments in the resuscitation of life to dead animals (dogs), as conducted by Dr. S.S. Bryukhonenko at the Institute of Experimental Physiology and Therapy, Voronezh, U.S.S.R.
