how true na hindi na siya kelangang i discharge before recharging? does this mean that it's safe to pop in fully charged NiMh's into a digicam, use it to snap a few photos, then have them recharged immediately(in a nonsmart charger)? according to a saleslady, NiCd lang daw ang kelangan i discharge.

according to one of the sites i visited, masama din daw kung fully discharged ang NiMh batteries.

If you try to recharge a 99% full battery (like when you snap just a few photos) it will be overcharged even if you use a smart charger. Bad for nimh, and to a lesser degree nicd.

full discharge is also bad if you have several cells in series because the weakest cell will die first and will undergo reversal.

If yo uwant to recharge better if you drain it a bit more, like down to 80% or so...

You don't have to fully discharge nimh. For nicd fully discharge about once a month.

AFAIK, NiMH has "done away" with the "memory effect" which is the main sickness of NiCd batteries. LIon batteries has totally done away with the memory effect.

li-ion is most convenient, you can charge anytime, you can even leave it in the charger all the time it won't overcharge.

As much as possible, I fully drain my NiMH & Li-Ion batteries (cellphone, digicam, laptop) before recharging them. But, if I'm on the go, I recharge them even partly drain pa lang sila. I think it's safe.

do not fully drain Li-ion batteries. mas masisira sila pag ganun. yung 6610 li-ion battery ko, 3 years na pero ayos pa rin kahit charge lang ako ng charge. kung mapapansin nyo yung 3210 NiMh battery ay madaling masira kapag ndi mo fully na discharge tas kinargahan mo sobrang dali ng buhay ng battery na yun.

Actually you can't fully drain a li-ion. The phone turns off loooooong before the li-ion is drained. The electronics make it idiot-proof.

question about nimh batteries
