Its used to save games, install games (purely optional unlike sa PS3 majority of game require an install), rip music files, storage for downloaded content from video files, demos, Xbox Arcade games etc.

Is Remote Play on a PS3 a no-no if your PSP has CFW? The PS3 prompts for an upgrade on the PSP before it can go ahead with the setup.

so regarding the xbox HD. i can download Hi Def movies and store it in the HD? then playback using xbox? anong movie format allowed?

You can install the games but you still need the disk. Its for copyright purposes... Installings benefit is to have faster load times...
