Not the mobile or wireless landline. I mean the traditional landline phone with the line attached to the wall.

My friend at work told me very few homes have landline now. He even said it is not needed anymore because of mobile and wireless landline phones.

BUT I realized that I can live without a landline. I hung our phone for more than a week now and my Mom only had one call from her friend that our landline was not working

We still have landline on our home.

Kahit may cellphone na kami (even my parents), we still use it especially kapag long distance (P10 flat rate ang long distance calls, PLDT to PLDT or Smart). And to call utilities like PLDT, Maynilad, credit cards, cable, and the like.

I still have, but its rarely used for outgoing calls (Bulacan na kasi kami) puro incoming lang, except to PLDT techsupport. It comes with the internet DSL line.

Stupid question, it's not possible to have DSL without a landline?

You mean just the internet with out the fone? Not sure in the Philippines but when i was in Japan you can get the internet (wired connection) without the fone subscription (cheaper). But in the Philippines, bundled na siya eh, and its not much expensive anyway.

We still have ours. My mom just uses it to call her friends, & for ordering food. Paying around P800+ for it, thinking of having it cut na.

    Plain Old Telephone System

Most business establishments still do have them as they are more reliable/faster than wireless for telebabad use.

DSL for residential comes bundled with POTS, while most business packages are stand-alone DSL.

Landline is never free, yan ang basic service for a Telco to operate. Its the other way around - DSL is just an added service. NTC require Telcos to roll-out certain amount of wired phone inorder to operate/renew license.

The basic infrastructure is copper wire designed for telephone. Nauso internet so bundle nila ang data sa existing telephone line.

Tumaas demand for data so the modem technology also improved to transmit max possible bandwidth over copper pushing the limits (15-20mhz). Telcos maximize the old facility as long as the copper infrastructure exist, all building vertical cabling are still using copper. At 15-20MB, medyo matatagal pa bago ma phase out ang copper, and we may never know transmission technology may still improve.meron na ngayon bundled copper lines aggregated na kaya itaas ang total bandwidth, yun lang nga mas madami needed copper pairs.

In 10yrs pa siguro kung puro optical fiber na baka totally ma phase out ang wired landline. but i guess, since the mandate of NTC is for telephone service eh isinasakay pa rin ang POTS sa optical fiber kaya sa dulo splitter na voice-internet-video.

yeap still has a landline, but previously it was 2 lines, now maintaining just 1 line. Usually to call customer supports, or reservations haha

Wired internet is still better than wireless. Most wired internet packages are bundled with landline or having landline is almost free with wired internet.

Mula nung bumagsak ang kita ng PLDT last year, nagising na sila sa katotohanan na they need to unbundle the landline and internet to be competitive

Still have a landline. Very useful for utility calls, fast food delivery calls, and when the security of the village calls for various reasons.
