we roam user here, mabagal sya if you use the gprs/edge card, if you get gprs signal its around 60 kbps ave (parang dial up), if its edge connection, mga double (120kbps, slower parin compare to dsl lines). the only thing that its great is, its wireless and you dont need to be close to a wifi hotspot, but the speed is really slow.

pldt has since launch a hsdpa card (3.5g) and its speed on the ave is around 256 kbps, this is according to the sales rep i asked.

you may want to try globe's visibility, i heard it can do 384 - 512 kbps easily, its also on hsdpa. if you are going to use it here in metro manila i think this is the brand for you since globe's 3g signal outside of metro manila is spotty at best. (if you dont have 3g signal even on a hsdpa card you will surf at the speed of gprs or edge whatever signal is available)

for the desktop use, i dont know, but i guess you can go to greenhills and ask if they have those usb pci external slot.

    hope this helps.

weroam user din ako for 15 months na....

kung dito ako sa makati & parañaque areas, naka EDGE ang connection ko, sa quezon city and manila, naka GPRS ang connection ko. other parts of the country like baguio, pangasinan, zambales, subic, batangas, rizal, laguna, tagaytay, nueva ecija are all GPRS connected.

    i'm eyeing on the HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS service worth P1,700/month. currently P1,200/month ako sa GPRS/EDGE. :D

PLDT WEROAM mayroon na silang USB verion with 3.6Mbps speed (HSDPA) yan yung kinuha ko since pwede sya sa Laptop and PC. Speed okay sya kasi nakaka kuha ako ng UMTS (3.6Mpbs) Signal. Try it 1,700 pesos per month so far wala pang problem.

+1 ako sa mga posts on weRoam users speed

there are usb to pcmcia peripheral devices pero sa ebay lang ako nakakita
locally you'll have to look around

the hsdpa card or usb dvice are slowly being rolled out by smart/pldt
while globe i think is just offering theirs for corporate users

you can purchase an unlocked 3G HSDPA card (sierra 875 from ebay Php7k shipped to you) and use your 3G activated smart sim (Php 10 /30 mins) as an alternative

btw u can use both data and voice funtions (using a headset mic setup)

weroam plus should have software/driver package
(watcher software if your using the "old" sierra wireless 775 aircard)

IF you use the latest version of the software there's a voice and data option
so mic and headset na lang kailangan mo

usb device maliit kaya lang its sticking out compared sa pcmcia devices
there's a chance you might knock out the usb device

usb device is cheaper as a hardware option v.s. data cards kaya lang sa liit baka mahulog you won't feel it= nawala na yung usb device pati sim goodbye

weroam may use the sierra wireless aircard 875 or the Option Globetrotter 3G PCMCIA card
    globe uses the huawei card

aesthetically mas cool tignan yung sierra or option
yung huawei may branding na globe kitang kita nakusli sa ulo ng aircard nila

i use my Sony Ericsson 3G phone - SMART provider. I get about 256kbps on 3G, 10Php for 30 minutes. I think this a lot better deal than we-roam. PLDT uses SMART network for We-ROAM, there's no QOS priority enabled anyway for WeROAM users.

3G phone + ur phone's connectivity software e.g. nokia pc suite is the practical way to go for starters with smart's php10.00/ 30 mins.

went this route for a while till i got tired of getting my connection disrupted when a call or txt came in and your not totally "unwired" i.e. still connected via blue tooth, irda or usb cable

IF the telcos allow other HSDPA usb sim dongle or pcmcia devices to access 3G services without tying you down with a locked device and plan then perhaps it'll be more accessible

take a look at ebay and you can see some sellers making a killing selling unlocked devices and it'll give you an idea where you may be able to save more
