We're planning to hook up three (3) PCs at home.

    Our choices are:

    - Three (3) plan 999s = 384kbps each PC

    OR

    - One (1) plan 3000 = 1Mbps / 3 = 333kbps each PC

Pareho lang halos yung price and speed, pero what is more advisable?

why have 3 separate accounts for computers located in the same house?

All you need is one DSL account then a DSL router (example: Linksys BEFSR41 4-port DSL Router which costs P2,350) to distribute the internet to your three computers. You can even have WiFi (wireless) LAN setup but prices for the WiFi lan cards are a bit more expensive than the equivalent wired version.

Of course, having only one account will mean you are limited that the speed of that account so you might want to get a faster account than 384kbps.

    ==============

Take my home setup as an example. I have two desktop PCs and my wife uses a notebook PC. All are connected via RJ45 cables to the Linksys router. Then I have two more PCs in two other rooms which are connected via WiFi to the Linksys router. All five computers are connected to the internet.

    Make the answer clear.

    One (1) plan 3000 = 1Mbps

    or

    Three (3) plan 999s = 384Kbps * 3 = 1.15Mbps

Parang mas ok kung kunin mo plan 3000 then use a router to share internet access.

Plan 999 is a contract where you are required to sign up for TWO years. The 1st year is P999/month and the 2nd year is at the regular monthly price. Average monthly (over two years) is P1400/month.

BTW, having three DSL accounts will require you to have THREE PHONE LINES. Thats another cost you will have to figure in if you don't have three phone lines right now.

Even having three DSL lines will not guarantee redundancy simply because all three are from the same broadband provider.

BTW, what is the reason why you want 1MBPS broadband connection?.. games? power surfing/downloading? video conferencing? Super-duper ****o downloads?

If you don't mind buying additional hardware to hook up your 3 pc's into one DSL connection, then kunin mo yung plan 3000 otherwise get 3 seperate 999's na lang provided you have 3 phone lines.

BTW, a ROUTER is a device that is used to distribute an internet connection to a local area network. You can connect one or more computers to the router.

We have 2 phone lines right now, pero we're going to apply for 2 more.

Hehe mahilig kasi kami magkakapatid sa online games. Also for power surfing and downloading, of course.

get the plan 3000 .. get a router to hook up your 3 pcs ... that way if you're not using all the pcs at the same time .. you can get more speed for the pc that's on ... the only advantage of having 3 separate plans would be redunduncy .. if one of your lines go down .. the others "might" still be up ..

i'm not sure why you'd want to get an additional phone line only to satisfy your dsl requirement .. unless you want to have private phone calls which you can use your cellphone anyways ..

if the reason you'll be getting separate plans is redundancy .. get a pldt and a globlines subscription ..

most of the time pagnagkaroon ng problema, all 3 DSL connections are affected, thats because all 3 DSLs are connected to one and the same base station. unless its the phone line itself thats causing the problem.

We're not getting additional phone lines just for that.

Is this true?

technically bawal but in practice, they don't even bother.

So if you don't want to be bothered by the technican/installed about it, just let them install it normally (direct to PC) then after he leaves, connect and configure your router to the DSL modem and surf away.

Advantage of using a router are:
-sharing of a single internet connection to multiple computers
-protection to the computers from outside hackers (firewall)
-simple to configure and more reliable (than using a didicated NAT server)
-small size and low power requirements (i have my router attached to the wall)
