Open source refers to a software platform where, as it 's moniker says, OPEN SOURCE ang codes. So access by the public is free.
iPhone is proprietary as it is own by Apple (the OS that is) and access to it is not publicly available (OS codes not the phone). So are Windows based Smartphone.
Android on the other hand is open source. SDK from Android is easily downloadable. Version names are really fun....Cupcake? Froyo? Donut?![]()
