TOKYO - Pioneer Corp. will stop making plasma display panels in an effort to turn around its money-losing business, the Japanese electronics maker said Friday.
Last month, Sony Corp. and Sharp said they are tying up, with Sony investing in a Sharp plant for making liquid crystal displays. Sony already buys LCD panels from Samsung, and the deal with Sharp was on top of that.

In December, Matsushita, Hitachi Ltd. and Canon Inc. announced a tie-up in their liquid crystal display businesses, shortly after Toshiba Corp. said it will team up with Sharp to buy LCD panels for Toshiba flat-panel TVs.
it also says, pioneer to buy panasonic plasma na lang... nagsawa na sa R&D.

Yup, the future of flat panel displays is now in the hands of the Koreans as they're the number one supplier of LCD flat panels.... Like the other electronic wonder, LED, the LCD has gone a long long way in our world. Back then, it's only application was the seven segment LCD display for watches and other number stuffs.... And, it was very hard to read through the display under bright sunlight. Now, it's dominating our TV sets, announcement boards, computer displays etc....

Tama lang palagay ko yung decision nila. Not much sense in R&D for Plasma since its technology is mature already.

Price-wise though and/or for large screens, mas mura at mas maganda ang plasma for now.
