    Sus... grabe nga.

You can still price a system at 25,000 pesos (a very believable price), and buy it... with licensed software at 17,000 pesos.

Over an installation of, say, 1000 computer units, that's a kickback of 8 million pesos.

Add to that the "freebies" most suppliers give with such a big contract... which could amount to some 1 million worth of items.

And you'd have a lot of people voting for you dahil sa "progressive" projects mo... hehehe.

Gads... if any Congressman is reading this, I'm available for consultation work... just e-mail me.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Any idea how much the technical support is? I imagine it also have to be for the life of those pc's. The iMacs in my kid's school are still fully supported up to now and they're the first generation from what, 1998?

I imagine they're also insured against loss with equivalent replacement should one get stolen. Before I start accusing, I'd like to see all the terms of the contract first.

Sir pekto -> wag ka na mag assume ng ganyan... kalakaran sa gobyerno, pagkadeliver, walang iniiwan na number o warranty card... ergo no tech support... pera pera lang talaga... P 200,000 ang kickback malamang per PC.

I have to give the benefit of the doubt even if it goes against every grain of my instinct because I can't for once believe that there's no decency left in the Philippine government.

You're probably right in this particular case. But as the case of $600 toilet seats here showed, those pork barrel antics aren't unique to the Philippines.... and yet, I still have faith in the government here.

even if we factor in extended warranty and maybe technical support on the price of each pc, they are still way overpriced.

for example, if you buy a dell pc, which normally comes with one year warranty, if you want extended warranty for another 3 years, perhaps you need to pay only a maximum of 10 percent from the original price for that. even if you add the delivery and installation charges.

    hay nako grabe ang patong.

Well, support for institutions normally cost quite a bit more. For example, our government Dells cost us a pretty penny. But, if one of our Dell Linux servers goes down, we don't even really troubleshoot it anymore. Dell sends a technician by air right away.

Of course, that's probably not the case in the Philippines as mikmik316 had stated.

I regularly purchase PCs for school use. Standard classroom PCs cost 17k to 25k, with tech support and warranty. 50k-70k will get you server level units. 251k? That's video-editing quality Macs or PCs already, and no mass-com school needs more than one or two. For public schools, they're as useful as golden urinals.

    malamang the usual stuff:

1 year limited warranty. carry-in only

carry-in so that they can reimburse cost of transpo.

1 year warranty para puwede reimburse repairs after warranty
