Help! My younger brother is deadset in getting a new celfone
and he's narrowed down his choice to these two models. His
budget is 5 thou and he likes the Nokia 2630 kasi its super-
nipis at only 9mm thickness. Yung Samsung E250 naman astig din
daw kasi slide-phone with a big 2-inch screen. Both of them come
within this price range.
I've been a Nokia user all throughout so I cant advise him on
the Samsung. OK din ba ang Samsung when it comes to
durability and performance?
Are there any other celfones which you think is better that
you can suggest to him for his 5 thou budget? Kung pwede
daw yung brand-new orig na, and not the "recon" or 2nd hand.

hmmmm.
the nokia is a dual band while the samsung is a tri-band. triband is useful if he is going to use the Sun Cellular network.
the nokia is lighter.
the samsung's ringtone is 64 channels, compared to the nokia 24 channels. therefore the samsung's has better sounds. but imho, kung ringtone lang din naman ito eh, medyo hindi sya important.
samsung has expandable memory (via microsd). the nokia has none.
the nokia has edge. the samsung gprs lang.
nokia has longer battery time.
personal opinion....the nokia is a bit at edge because of the cost of spare parts and resale value but
a) if he's going to use the sun cell network, mas important ang triband;
b) the expandable memory of the samsung unit is important if he's gonna use the camphone often (although vga ang resolution nya).
c) on the aesthetics, i like the way the samsung looks. yung nokia mukhang a bit cheap.
on the durability, i had used three samsung phones as of date, three of them conked out and it can't be repaired by the tiangges. ang mahal ng parts. and patay patay talaga kung ibebenta na, dahil ang baba masyado ng resale. but they really look good.
at 5k, i would just get a second hand K610 (dagdag na lang ng onti), 3G phone pa, with 1.2 mpx cam. i think it costs around 6k sa market ngayon. mas sulit, imho.Last edited by 1D4LV; January 7th, 2008 at 10:48 AM.

Thanks 1D4LV for the valuable info. I'll tell my younger brother
to check out the K610 first. Kaya lang baka sa akin humingi
ng pandagdag yun, paktay na!

Samsungs really are stylish but I don't recommend them for heavy texters. I had a d900i before and after 2 months of moderate texting, there are some keys that doesn't respond anymore. To think I only had "one" textmate.
Nokia is a reliable brand. But for me, sony ericson does the better job in terms of performance and reliability.

SE K series user here...
3 yrs na, oks pa naman. Had the joystick replaced and the camera button repaired, mga 2k gastos, ok na ulit.
for me, yun lang kahinaan ng SE. For Samsung, no info...
Nokia ok din naman, user firendly but SEs have more functionality as in the case of the "K" or camera series...HTH!

April 16th, 2009 11:46 AM #6Hi IDL4V, just saw your expert advice re phone options. Wish I saw this earlier.. Anyway what do you think of Nokia 5000? And what other phone do you think match up with this model in terms of price (4K) and functionality ?

its ok for an entry level unit. i have one myself which i got for free from Smart. ang ayoko lang is the color.... pambagets.
on the functionality and price, i would say, the MyPhone T82 is better. Why?
- battery life is long (i average around 4 days between charges, normal use)
- dual active SIM
- very small and light
- selective incoming number barring
- more stable OS
i got mine at 4.2k.
the only hitch is that the camera is only VGA, but who cares? The Nokia 5000's camera is only 1.2 Mpx, pareho lang din almost sa akin ang output nya.

one pahabol. samsung parts are really expensive compared to SEs and Nokias.
Puwede i try, 1. Palit air filter 2. Linis throttle body 3. Linis MAF sensor 4. Check spark...
high idle RPM at engine start
