If you have the "moolah", go & get the Samsung LED. I have seen these myself, and really, they're better than LCDs in terms of picture quality, weight, & power consumption.

Pero ako LCD lang muna. I just got myself a Sony Bravia 32" lately.

    Mahal pa LEDs eh........

Yung LED refers to the backlighting ng LCD. Unfortunately, ginagamit ngayon ng Sony, LG at Samsung, for "eco-friendly" reason rather the picture-qulity...

    Pros
-Incredibly thin display is one of a kind

    Cons
-Annoying screen brightness fluctuations with dark or near-dark material
-Poor light uniformity thanks to sidelighting
-There is no way to lessen the Auto Dimming.

It's not worth the money yet. Being a new tech, it's super expensive but its price would stabilize around the current LCD prices in a year or two. I have seen the Samsung LEDs and it's nice but having owned quite a number of Samsung stuff (both home and IT consumer), I am quite traumatized with their lack of quality.

I'll wait for LG or Sony. For the meantime, I'll stick with cheaper 120Hz+ HDTVs.

I'm also in the market for LCD TV's. Right now, I'm eyeing the Samsung B530 40-incher. I wouldn't go for LEDs at the moment, since reviewers point out a lot of issues. Well, the technology is still new, so that's expected.

For me, as long as its Full HD, has at least 2 HDMI ports and a USB slot, I'm a happy camper.

If it will be purely for movie and cable TV watching, why don't you consider the good 'ol Plasma TV? It's cheaper and have better picture quality compared to LCD TVs.

But doesn't even current plasma TVs have burn-in problems as well as a life span of a few years only with daily use?

all LEDs are LCDs. Ang difference lang ay nasa backlighting techniques. LCDs use flourescent lightings while LEDs use Light Emitting Diodes wherein you can dim it in darker areas (CONTRAST). Sa COLOR accuracy ay hindi nagkakalayo. DURABILITY is questionable sa LEDs kasi new technology pa lang ito, they don't have much history.

I say I'd go for LCDs.

No more burn-ins and image retentions for the past 2 or 3 generation plasmas. My 2 yr old Panasonic plasma TV is being used by my kids to play Wii. Did not experience any IRs.

As for the life span of the panel, with the way the electronics companies introduce new models with new technologies every few months, and with cheaper introductory prices for new models, do you think you'll keep your TV after 5yrs of use?

Some Cable offer HD Channels (like Cignal Digital TV which offers 8 HD... although not all of them are true HD IMHO..)

(like burn in issues?)

Just change the output aspect ratio of the screen in the menu of your TV. I haven't owned a Samsung, so I don't know how to do it in your unit.

I'd still go for the LCD over the LED. So, may dimming features ang LED....

There are two critical difference between Full Screen and Widescreen. Full screen productions are recorded to display * 4:3 aspect ratio (fit for old square shaped TVs) against Widescreen's 16:9 (designed to suit modern rectangular shaped TVs and theater display).

When you watch a regular TV broadcast, some channels/stations have a library of shows that have been recorded in 4:3 ratio. It's not your TV set's fault.

Just like what Boybi mentioned, just adjust your output settings or you can zoom in (if you have that function).

    Short answer... Nope.

Try to activate Wide Zoom. That works for the Sony Bravia. Para syang Fit-to-screen mode. All part of the broadcast picture still stays within viewable dimensions. Samsung must have a similar function.
