Recently bought a Lenovo Z480 with the following specs:

3rd Gen Core i5 3210M
4GB RAM
GeForce GT630M with 2GB dedicated RAM
500GB HDD

I love the spacing of the keyboard and ease of typing. It's not as pretty as the new ultrabooks out there, but I think it's great value for the price (around 30k).

Priced at around P35K without OS. The specs are good aside from a little bit chunky. The chicklet keyboard is a nice touch towards the current trend in keyboard styles.

Hows the battery life? With a dedicated GF GT630M GPU, it might be a bit power hungry even in simple tasks.

A few days ago I bought an Asus UX32VD Zenbook (yes, I have gone insane buying this.... )

It has two GPUs, a basic gpu for normal needs and the Nvidia GT620M for games or other needs. Audio quality is superb, rich and solid. Better than in most laptops I have tried.

Hows the battery life? With a dedicated GF GT630M GPU, it might be a bit power hungry even in simple tasks.

I negotiated mine to 33k 12 months 0% interest. I think they were willing to go down to 29k straight up cash.
Battery life is acceptable: around 4-5 hours for browsing. It has Optimus technology so it can automatically switch between the Intel HD4000 and the discrete GPU.

Planning rin to buy another lappy anytime soon. ~40k budget, w/ OS na sana.

Primary function: Internet, file storage, ****......

Main preference ko eh yun ok battery life and syempre yun walang lag lag kahit meron mga files.

Tsaka wag sana yun sobra liit naman na mga screen. Ok lang naman saken kung malaki o makapal yung lappy as long as it wont have a problem.

*GH: Magkano & san mo nabili? Ok ah, WIN7 Home Premium na yun kasama... 64 bit pa. Pero ano ba advantages ng i7 sa i5? Di ko kasi gets difference nila e.

My Asus UX32VD costed me just under P60K. But it does come with nice features like the dedicated fast GPU with 1gb of ram, lighted keyboard, a bunch of USB 3.0 ports, full size VGA port (on a cable), great sounding speakers by Bang & Otufsen, fast hybrid HDD/SSD 500gb storage and a full metal chassis.

As for the differences between i5 and i7... we can compare it to engine sizes.
atom = 1.0L
dual-core = 1.3L
core i3 = 1.6L
core i5 (mobile) = 2.0L-turbo
core i5 = 3.0L
core i7 = 5.0L V6

BTW, ASUS is coming out with the ASUS A46 Slimbook very soon. Although it is spec with the Intel Core i3 cpu at 1.8ghz, it's almost an ultrabook in slimness. 14inch LED screen, weighs at 1.9kg and still packs a DVD drive. It's priced to be around P28K.

Personally, if you are buying a new laptop and you do have the budget, best to go ones with Core i5 processors as minimum.
