    got this from a mail:

Can you trick your foot? How smart is your right foot? This is so funny
that it will boggle your mind. And you will keep trying to see if you
can outsmart your foot--but you can't.

While sitting, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise
circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your
right hand. Your foot will change direction!

....and there's nothing you can do about it.

This time, lift your left foot off the floor and make counter-clockwise circles with it.
At the same time, draw the number "9" in the air with you left hand.

Actually that is one example to test your Left and Right Brain.

This is like the trick where you point your index fingers at each other in front of you and try and make a clockwise circle with one hand and a counterclockwise circle with the other. Now go faster. Faster. Chances are that one of your hands switched directions.

I've found that how you think about the problem helps; if instead of thinking about it as two fingers each drawing their own circles you think about it as ONE circle that each finger is drawing half of, from top to bottom and back again, you may find it easier to do. There seems to be some kind of 'linking' phenomenon - I can't keep two independent motions going at once unless I can 'link' them mentally into one idea of motion. Not that that's very clear, but it's as clear as I can put it.

Similarly, if the trick is to make your foot do clockwise circles and your hand do counterclockwise ones, if you think about them as 'linked' but opposite, then it should be easier to pull off.

Has no one invetigated these things? There's clearly some kind of mind-body limitation being run up against.

It's just the way you're built. These are well known limitations of the brain.

This is the reason, for example, why phone numbers are broken down thus:

736-31-21, because your short term memory can only hold three to four figures at a time, thus instead of
    seven-three-six-three-one-two-one

    you think of it as
    seventhirtysix thirtyone twentyone

    we're so easy to fool.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

You already have figured out that it happens because "6" is a counter-clockwise spiral and your hand overrides your foot.

I'm sure there's some complex neural pathway explanation for it. Someone in my weblog mentioned that certain yoga maneuvers where you have to spread your toes wide apart are best done while also spreading your fingers: your toes follow suit. ;)
