It seems I can't use this with my non-Imation flashdrive.

Same din sya sa truecrypt. You will need to install the software in the PC before you can access the protected folder in the flashdrive. So kung makikigamit ka ng PC, you can't access the flashdrive.

My Sandisk Cruzer Micro 2GB (got it from the US) has a pre-installed software that can password protect the whole flash disk. Although the computer takes a bit more time to recognize the removable drive (because the software has to load itself first).

It looks like there's no software yet that can password-protect a USB flashdrive without installing the software in the computer first. I've tried all of the above softwares, and all are similar. If the software is not installed in the computer, the protected folder cannot be recognized by the computer.

Mag "install" sya automatically everytime na gamitin mo sya sa ibang PC. Not a big problem naman if your main concern is the security of your files.
