June 27th, 2007 10:51 AM #2Hard to say. I have an old 20GB 4200rpm IBM that is still alive. Got it when P3 pa ang top of the line. Its now used as a usb drive for back ups. I have 2 other drives a Samsung and a Hitachi, both are over 2 years old and still working great.

The Hitachi 2.5" 40gb 5400rpm hdd in my laptop's still alive. I bought the laptop in 2003 and replaced the slow 4200rpm hdd with the faster Hitachi.
Here's also a couple of external hard drives I use. The Crossfire in the background is a firewire enclosure with a 3.5" 120gb WD 7200rpm hdd. I also bought it back in 2003.
The one in the foreground is a DIY usb2 enclosure. I picked it because its circuitry is good enough to make it as quick as my firewire hdd. Inside is a 2.5" 60gb WD 5400rpm hdd. I got in 2004.....er nope. I got it in 2005.

My very first laptop's hard disk (Fujitsu Lifebook LB100), I think, is still alive. Bought it in 1999. Gamit yata ng mother-in-law ko now.

June 28th, 2007 12:26 PM #9Check mo muna yung hard drive baka lumuwag lang. Happened to me before. If its connected properly to the laptop, you can go to Western Digital's website and download a disk checking utility. I think its called lifeguard. Or you can try Seagates Seatools disk diagnostic software, downloadable form seagate.
