May 17th, 2009 07:25 AM #1My brother just bought me in Dubai a Dell Inspiron mini 12 which comes with a VISTA OS. I have not seen one yet here in Cebu. I have the following queries:
1. Since this comes with a 1 gig ram, can this be upgraded?
2. It comes with a VISTA OS, can I downgrade this to Windows XP? How?
3. Is Windows 7 good for this?

Yung regarding sa # question mo. Pwede i downgrade sa XP yun pero mahirap. You need to download the Intel Matrix storage driver(SATA driver) install it before even starting the installation of XP. kasi for sure, pag XP CD lang ang ilalagay mu agad, Hindi nya madedetect yung HDD mo.
Sir i have the Windows XP Pro CD for Dell Laptop that is already pre-activated. We are able to integrate the intel matrix driver on the OS so no need to install it.
So taga Cebu ka sir? Layo pala. kung dito ka lang, pahiram ko sayo yun or burn kita ng copy.

May 17th, 2009 11:31 AM #4if it's a netbook.. most likely wala siyang optical drive.. so you'll have to find an external optical drive connected through the usb..
you'll have to change some settings in the bios... i forgot which one.. will check my bios and post it later..
if you're thinking of installing orig licensed XP... medyo mahihirapan ka to source.. i think stop selling na ang MS ng XP since the support is already stopped... if ever may mabili, it would be those in the distribution system.. mga stocks ng mga dealers...

HIndi talaga recommended ng PC (either laptop, netbook or desktop) manufacturers na mag-downgrade from Vista to XP. It is even stated in their manual.

May 17th, 2009 04:31 PM #7kung mahirap magdown grade to xp from vista with my laptop. then, conversely it is easy to upgrade it to windows 7. Am I right?
But since windows 7 is beta version pa lang. can anyone say when the final version will officially be released?

This is the second time I downgraded my Toshiba laptop from Vista Home Premium to XP Home.
I had the problem with the XP Home cd not finding the SATA hard drive. What I did is boot from a Western Digital (WD) hard drive utility cd* and formatted the hard drive via a WD utility. Once the hard drive has been formatted, the XP Home cd was able to locate it. When prompted if I want the hard drive formatted first, I just click "No".
*Typically included with boxed/retail WD internal hard drives.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; May 17th, 2009 at 04:37 PM.

It's not hard to downgrade from Vista to XP. It is important to get all the brand names and specific model for each device before starting anything. Other models of the same laptop brand or even different brands may have similar hardware (and similar drivers).
It didn't take too long for me to find XP drivers for my laptop.
As for drivers in Windows 7, Vista drivers should work fine. Other drivers work in both XP and Vista/Win7.

When I installed Win 7 Beta Build 7000 on my Toshiba laptop, I didn't have to lift a finger to install drivers. Every device had its proper driver installed correctly...... Not bad.
Ang tagal na ibinalita yang ban. Tapos warning pa ang ginawa first few days. Yung mga nahuli pa...
