Which would you recommend for burning movies, DVD-R or DVD+R blank discs? TY.

In my experience, I didn't find any difference between the two.

I asked the saleslady at CD-R King the same question and here's what she told me: If you're gonna be burning DVD movies, use DVD-R. If you're gonna burn data, use DVD+R.

Don't know if she's pulling my leg or what...

both are non re-writable unless it's a RW. DVD-R is more compatible with DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs. a difference of 93% to 89%

Same, though I find + a tad faster specially when finalizing (is this word right? it's when it closes the session).

Nowadays it doesn't matter what format dvd you use. What matters more is the brand of blank discs. Don't ever buy Memorex-branded ones. I have a personal preference for iMation (made here in town) and TDK (esp for DVDRW).
