You can use Divx Player which is part of the free Divx package. Once the movie is playing Alt-I will bring up the file info. I just tried playing a d/l pr0n (used the Divx codec) and it wouldn't play on the dvd player.

All the movie Divx conversions I made work perfectly and they all used the Xvid codec.

Did the Alt I thing on divx player this is what I got:

    SC-S1E06.divx
    Filename:
    D:/SC-S1E06.divx

    Video Track #1:
    FOURCC: "DX50" (DivX® Video)
    512x288, 23,976000 fps

    Audio Track #1:
    FormatTag : "85" (MPEG-1 Layer-3 Audio (mp3))
    2 channels, 44100Hz
    Language: N/A

Does this mean that it uses the DX50 codec or DivX codec?

Yup, it uses the Divx codec. AVI's using that codec won't play on my DVD player either. You need those that use the Xvid codec. Go figure.......

That certainly is quick. I buy my movies/dvds legit or at least I record them from cable/DirectTV. But, I don't want any sort of copy protection on them.
