You can use Divx Player which is part of the free Divx package. Once the movie is playing Alt-I will bring up the file info. I just tried playing a d/l pr0n(used the Divx codec) and it wouldn't play on the dvd player.
All the movie Divx conversions I made work perfectly and they all used the Xvid codec.

Did the Alt I thing on divx player this is what I got:
SC-S1E06.divx
Filename:
D:/SC-S1E06.divx
Video Track #1:
FOURCC: "DX50" (DivX® Video)
512x288, 23,976000 fps
Audio Track #1:
FormatTag : "85" (MPEG-1 Layer-3 Audio (mp3))
2 channels, 44100Hz
Language: N/A
Does this mean that it uses the DX50 codec or DivX codec?
