For your budget and inclination in Photography..a Nikon D5100 or Canon650D is a good compromise..

Just bought a Canon650D for the wifey and she's lovin the ala-tablet feature it's touchscreen LCD screen. Not to mention an advance image processor than rest of the Canon line up. Digic 5 is my consideration of buying the 650D over 60D. But am really looking for the upcoming upgrade of 60D.
