January 7th, 2016 09:04 AM #31Unfortunately, either my Emaxx (j&w ang oem) board doesn't really support unlocking or my procie is one of those with a bad 2nd core. I already flashed an "unlock" rom from the manufacturer and the closest I got was seeing the name of the processor change in the initial BIOS screen followed by a reboot. I haven't been able to replicate it since.
Nakakahinayang lang kasi bumili ng 2nd hand procie na presyong almost brand new pa rin. Some people don't take depreciation into account when selling their items online. I also have this bad experience with tinkering with the processor (tried the pencil trick to unlock a Duron on an ECS k7s5a) and ending up with a seemingly dead board.

If the gf cannot source out a mobo in a few months, baka ibenta ko nalang talaga yung i7 ko. Meron pa nga akong i3 3220 dito na ginawa kong temporary processor habang inaantay yung i7 3770k ko, so meron akong dalawang processor na walang ginagawa dito
I'll let you know if I'm going to sell both processors

January 7th, 2016 09:52 AM #33Currently using a desktop PC as Hypervisor; specs are pathetic so it's used mainly for playing around with new OSes. am planning to set up a beefier rig for my experiments. Mahal pa rin ng i5 :p

I still make do with my DIY PC: 2013 4 Ghz AMD FX-8350, 4 GB GTX 770, 8 GB DDR 3 RAM, Win 10 Professional
I also have a 14" 2012 ASUS G46VW Rog (2.6 Ghz, 3.2 Ghz turbo), GTX 660m, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Win 10
I also keep the very first 1.67 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.8
I still keep a 2010 Toshiba Mini NB305-N600 Atom N550. It has a 2 GB RAM limit. So, I took out Win 10, Win 7 Starter. I replaced them instead with Win XP.
The eldest kid has a DIY PC: i5 4670k, R9 290x, 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 plus her laptop
The youngest kid has a DIY PC: AMD A10-7850k, DDR5 GT 730, 8 GB RAM, Win 7
The wife has her Sager laptop and Mac Mini

Just Googling for your motherboard's exact model and looking up the specs. It has to be specific. You can also use CPUID/CPUZ to identify both the board model and the memory it's using.
Be careful when looking up the board's specs. Here's an example of two almost-identical boards from MSI, distinguished only by one letter:
MSI P45-C51 - DDR3
MSI P45T-C51 - DDR2

DIY CoolerMaster Silencio 352 case
I still have my old Logitech Z-2300 speakers from 2005. The sub is my foot stool.
Toshiba 10.1" netbook and ASUS RoG 14" laptop at the flanks.
The monitor is still a 2010 Dynex 24" 1080p TV. It's the primary monitor for my gaming PC. I also dual-monitor it with the ASUS laptop when I'm doing my college courses.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; January 7th, 2016 at 12:56 PM.

Yes I do use them a lot.... My story.
our home network setup is at par or even better than small SO/HO business setups. one desktop unit runs on the basic Celeron processor with 2 GB RAM, with an old 128 GB hard disk. Runs on three network cards on VM. One VM runs PFSense with load balance functionalities, DHCP, Firewall and Network AV. The balance is that 75% of the bandwidth is assigned to the other desktop unit (details below), connected directly to a 4 port cabled hub. And the remaining 25% is assigned to the access points in the living room and in the bedroom. The desktop PC here is basic. No frills, no monitor, no keyboard and no mouse. Everything is controlled via IP.
the second desktop unit is a component of our home entertainment system. Runs on AMD A8, with 12 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD as its primary system and booting disk, 1 TB of the usual DASD as storage, dual monitors (1 29 inch Asus monitor and 1 19 inch LG), a Logitech mechanical gaming keyboard and a Logitech gaming mouse. The 29 inch monitor is attached to the desktop via HDMI - 1 (on Nvidia GeForce GTX 960) and the 19 inch monitor is connected via VGA. The other HDMI port sa 29" monitor is connected to a PS3 device, which is also connected via cable to the 4 port hub. Desktop runs on Win 10 professional. Meron din palang DVD drive ito. MoBo is an Asus Pro-Gamer and the speakers is an old Altec Lansing ATP-3 that I won in a raffle around 10 years ago (ganda pa din ng tunog).
Both desktops, the hub and the monitors are connected to a 500 VA APC UPS.
On mobility, wifey uses an IPAD. I use a Chromebook at home (which I usually share with my kid), but occassionally brings my work laptop home (a Lenovo ThinkPad E130) and the usual smartphones. They connect to the APs on the second floor and on the ground floor area. Internet connection is 2 mbps PLDT and 5 mbps Globe connected directly to the PFSense Desktop PC. The second floor Smart TV (which I got last December lang), connects to the 2nd floor AP.
Backup is done via DLink DNS 320 NAS with 2 TB storage directly connected to the 4 port hub. Eto na din yung file server namin sa house.
Now, I am trying to figure out how to put in a TV Plus console dun sa second PC.Last edited by 1D4LV; January 7th, 2016 at 12:46 PM.
