Have you tried changing the name from xxxxx.wmd to xxxxx.wmv (from within DOS Prompt)? It might work. Then, you can open it up in MovieMaker and save it as you please. I've done the same with renaming .vob files to .mpg files and then using MovieMaker to save them. It has to be MovieMaker though. Other apps sometimes choke.

Go to the file directory. At the DOS prompt:

    > rename xxx.wmd xxx.wmv

    good luck

Cross your fingers. Sometimes it doesn't work. But, if Windows Media Player can open it (besides the .vob format), MovieMaker can too.

I do know that when renaming .vob files to .mpg, MovieMaker is the only app that imports them fine with sound. That's why much as I dislike MovieMaker 1 and 2, they have their uses.
