The only reason sand travels long distances when you kick it up on Earth is because the wind picks up the smaller grains, and they take longer to fall down.

On the Moon, there is no wind. The effect of the sand grains making perfect parabolic arcs when they rise and fall can only be achieved in an airless environment.
