Arroyo wants telcos to check measures vs wiretapping

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday ordered the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to assess whether mobile phone service providers have put up enough security measures against wiretapping.
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday ordered the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to assess whether mobile phone service providers have put up enough security measures against wiretapping.
This was according to Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita.
The President's orders came a day after Malacañang played to media a recorded conversation http://news.inq7.net/breaking/index....story_id=39457 between a woman believed to be Arroyo and a man, said to be a political supporter but who others have identified as Elections Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano.
The recording apparently came from a wiretapped cellular phone call.
In that recording, Arroyo asked the man whether her lead in the polls could fall below one million votes. The man replied that although her lead had fallen to 900,000, votes from several towns had yet to be counted.
Then the man says, "We will do our best."
Bunye said Malacañang was outraged that the phone of the President was illegally tapped and the wiretapped conversation was spliced. He said the man on the other line was not a commissioner.
In a GMA Network Flash Report, Garcillano denied that he was a participant in the conversation.
