anybody here in the states who uses Radar/Laser detectors?
Is it really as useful as they claim? Or is it just a waste of money?
(coming from the "autobahn of asia", speedlimits really are a bummer... lolz.... )

if it does do what it claims, what are the good brands and features that I should look for?

thanks in advance for the info.

Pre, OK na investment ang radar detector..... it saved me on numerous times from being caught for speeding. Ayaw din naming mag-radar dati but nung nahuli ang wife ko for doing 15mph over the speed limit at nagbayad kami ng $150.00, bumili na rin kami.

BTW, I'm using a Bel Vecotr 990 radar detector. Got it on sale sa Circuit City a year and a half ago......

Look for a radar detector that responds to all types of radar currently used by the police... yung sa akin programmable na magdagdag ng radar type kung may bago. May autoscan din sya which is nice kasi hindi na ako magkakalikot pa to adjust the radar from highway mode to city mode. Also, halos lahat ng radar ngayon may 360 degree protection. Isa pa, ayos din yung malayo ang range ng detector.... yung iba kasi maga-alarm lang kapag less than half a mile na lang yung layo ng pulis, di ka na makapag-slow down in time. Meron ding mga nice to have features like real voice messages.... Lastly, look for a radar na may magandang warranty.

Valentine One hindi ata nabibili ito sa labas. And walang discount discount. Mahal talaga pero worth it naman siguro.

    Bel Vector 990....

I got it on sale for $250.... bale naging $270 because of the $20 cost of the 4-year warranty (sulit because I was able to exchange the whole unit last month for a new one dahil lang sa mga squeeks pag nalulubak). Usual cost is $300 w/o warranty (I suggest to opt for an extended warranty). Hindi ko kasi gusto yung Valentine One.... pulos gimmickry yung mga comparong nagpanalo sa Valentine One sa mga car mags dahil yung gumastos sa surveys at tests Valentine One den (I would suggest to read the radar tests conducted by MT or C/D). In fairness naman sa Valentine One, talaga namang top of the line den ang qualities nya (ought to be to justify the price). I have used Valentine One before and I must admit na isa sya sa mga powerful radar detectors out there today. Ibinalik ko lang kasi sensitive sya masyado (maingay, hehehe), hindi ko alam kung gaano pa kalayo yung police radar sa akin (although you can tell by the sound - mas malakas mas malapit - minsan kasi hinihinaan ko lang sya since my stereo is on so I prefer to know it visually) and also, masyado syang malaki and medyo nai-ilang ako sa kanya (since may mga area akong hindi makita kapag nakalagay sya sa dash). It's a matter of personal preference na lang siguro.....
