Another "what cellphone to buy" thread

Budget: Php 8,000 to Php 12,000 (can increase budget when needed)

    Primary uses for the phone:

    1.) SMS

    2.) Phone calls

    3.) very basic calendar function

    Features I am looking for:

1.) Long and reliable battery life

2.) Good keyboard layout and feel

3.) At least colored screen (even if its not hi-res)

4.) Triband and if possible QUAD band (I know it would be a bit of a stretch)

5.) Camera capable phone (maybe 2MP or above, is that possible with this budget?)

6.) Able to be back-up through the PC.

    7.) Simple/basic calendar features

8.) Considering a brick (shaped) phone to minimize damage with moving parts. I'm open to flip phones but NOT sliding phones bec. they are thicker than the abovementioned.

9.) User-friendly phone software interface (bec. I don't have the time to study the manual :D)

10.) Can be purchased locally and comes with distributor backed warranty. NO second hand units or gray market units.

11.) Brand name mobile phone companies only i.e. : Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, etc... Not interested in any brandless Chinese designed/engineered phones.

    > Given the abovementioned parameters, pls. help suggest a brand and model for my purchase consideration,.

    > If possible, pls give a cost estimate and best place to acquire the unit.

    Thanks!

It's an older model but the Nokia N70 is pretty solid. Gives basic PIM, Calendar, Web Browser, 2MP camera/video, and you can sync it with a PC. Plus, its a 3G capable, triband phone which can also store and play multimedia files.

Suggest you check the reviews in cnet, just to be safe.

Does the N70 "hang"? I read somewhere that some of the N series "hangs" quite often.

It's stable if you use it normally.

I made it (meine n70) hang by opening a lot of applications at the same time. hehehehe

One thing though, this model is quite very old, mine is 1.5yrs already.

I'm just waiting for N95 to dip 20k level. hehe

Nokia N70 na lang sir. I've been using that phone for over a year. If I remember it right, mga twice lang sya nag-hang. That's it. Very reliable but the keypads are too small for me. Libre kse kaya ok lang! hehehe!

    Pwede din SE K750i.

    Nokia 6300 Review (Philippines)

According to the above review link, the N 6300 costs Php 9,800 brand new. Not sure if it pertains to gray or official nokia units.

    ***********

The phone I'm lusting over right now, is the N93i. :D But it costs Php 3x,xxx.xx ++ ! everywhere!

The Motorola V3i is now Php 7,xxx.xx+. Not bad!

    ***********

Once thing I'm annoyed with cellphone manufacturers, is its planned obsolescence. I know this natual in this kind of business but when they can't provide support by making parts available. Right now, I *might* be forced to upgrade bec. I'm having a hard time getting my hands on genuine Nokia replacement battery for my 7250.

I use nokia 6300 since March. Call, Text, MP3 (w/ 2GB MicroSD and 25mm headset), 2Megapixel Cam & Video, Bluetooth, Notes (puwede cut/copy and paste) and of course the scratch proof, Stainless steel body. This is also a USB Phone btw. I just connect the phone to my Imac using USB cable and it functions like a memory card.

ewan ko magmula ng naging phone ko 'to, I rarely visit Nokia or other cellphone shops in malls anymore. I dont even know the new breakthroughs ngaun sa cellphone tech like WiFi, 3G, Nseries etc etc. except of course when I had the Nokia E61. kinekelangan ko pa makibalita sa e-series org.

ignorance is bliss ... life simpler.

but buy this only if you have a good stand-alone camera. like mga compact slim types. I use a dslr kasi kaya I rarely use the camera function

Ok this time what if its the N70 music edition ( latest iteration of the N70) Vs. Nokia 6300. Which of the two would be a better choice? I'm not so sure but I think there is only a small price difference bet the two.
