Not true, euro 4 gasolines still contains 0.005 g/l lead. What the govt prohibits are added lead.

Found out that cadmium, lead and mercury (all heavy metals) are used in the manufacture of friction materials like brake and clutch pads. Although, most reputable brands would have dialed down on the use of heavy metals and copper due to legislation, I would think that cheaper brands are still making it the old fashioned way.

If you stand around EDSA, especially near bus stops, the stench of burning friction materials seems to compete with exhaust fumes.

I remember someone posting that some brake pads from Asian countries even contain Asbestos.

Fog or haze in Metro Manila? Not connected to Taal Volcano but bad for health, says meteorologist

MANILA - If you’ve noticed the foggy-like haze seen around Metro Manila on Friday, it’s not fog or ash from Taal Volcano, a meteorologist said.

“It has nothing to do with Taal (Volcano). It’s not fog either,” said UP Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) professor Dr. Gerry Bagtasa in a text message to ABS-CBN News.

“Air is currently stagnant because of opposing winds over Metro Manila. High humidity or light rain gives it the appearance of fog,” he further said.

Air quality monitoring site Airtoday recorded “poor” air quality on Friday afternoon, with the level or air pollutants reaching 63 to 65 micrograms per cubic meter by 1 p.m. The World Health Organization standard for exposure to air pollution is at a maximum of 25 micrograms per cubic meter.

Air Intellipure also posted in its Facebook page that their monitoring measured 14.6 million particles per cubic foot in Makati.
“Air particle levels are the highest we have ever seen.”

    BAD FOR HEALTH

Bagtasa said with the high level of pollutants in the air, people should “refrain from outdoor activities and stay indoors” because it is bad for their health.

He said this has happened before because of the weather.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s (Phivolcs) Mariton Bornas, who heads the agency’s Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division, said in a comment to reporters that it’s also hard to tell if it’s linked to volcanic ash.

“We had a brief minor ash emission period today, plus there seems to be rain,” she wrote. “Fine ash can remain in suspension in the atmosphere for three days. But this haze could also be just pollution.”

Bornas also told ABS-CBN News that meteorologists are getting more information.

In a Twitter thread, Bagtasa said pollutants are unable to disperse due to the prevailing winds and the temperature.

“Is that fog? NO, high humidity (there's drizzle) results in particulates being coated with water, which further reduces visibility. This gives the appearance of fog,” he further explained.

    2) there's a temperature inversion as seen from Tanay sounding this morning, I reckon it's related to the high pressure observed in Science Garden today, called subsidence inversion. Pollutants can't move up and disperse because of this.

Ayan why i love when it rains. Also bakit ayaw ko desel engine.

Tingnan nyo tsikoteers bakit ayaw ko city of makati. Wala ako gadgets to measure the air quality. Pero by just looking sa dikit-dikit na highrise eh paano magfoflow hangin jan. Kitams pinakamadumi talaga hangin ng makati.

Sino dapat sisihin. Binay family and the overrated ayala. Walang tamang zoning eh.

Jan talaga madumi.

FYI ganyan din sa BGC at Ortigas. Ano akala mo buong MM polluted at may force field sa QC

1960s pa kami dito sa Makati and we are doing just fine. Nobody is forcing you to go, wag ka na lumabas ng QC. Pati sa south wag ka na rin pupunta

cathey, hindi naman nagsisnungaling data. Si bgc pwede pareha ng makati kasi makati naman yan eh. Pero si ortigas eh more like greenhills level yan.

Remember my post dati si cocktales of inquirer na may isang village daw makati na nagkaroon ng "cancer cluster" As in magkakapitbahay sabay-sabay nagkacancer. Must be the water? The air? or the chemicals they use to maintain the village.

I think more than 5years na ako hindi nakakapunta makati if hindi kasali yung pag punta ko sa airport sa naia. Sa south last na punta ko eh year 2012 or 2013 eh napilitan lang.

Eh hindi ko naman kasalanan if yung mga pronouncement ko before eh nagkakatotoo na ngayon.

Sabi ko dati i dont like makati, bicutan, paranaque, alabang, tagaytay, baguio, boracay, pampanga. So nakita mo meron south at northe.

Ano kaya air quality sa US kasi ang bango ng hangin nila. I never experienced that in other countries I've been to naman. Ang sarap huminga sa US especially pag malamig.

Feeling ko Japan mabango din hangin (never been there)

    actually,
    according to some internet-sourced articles,
it is because of tradition and image.

in many places, the pump price of diesel is politically driven.
