Honda confirms HSV-010 GT to compete in Super GT Series

Honda have confirmed that they will compete in the GT500 class of the 2010 Japanese Super GT Series with its HSV-010 GT concept model. The front engine, rear-wheel drive Honda will be powered by a 3.4-litre V8 engine, as per Super GT regulations.

The HSV-010 GT concept was originally revealed as a possible replacement for the NSX road car, however with the state of the world economy and decline of the automotive industry, Honda have shifted their focus towards more mainstream vehicles, especially those with an environmental slant.

Super GT is normally only for production cars, but Honda seems to have found a loophole in rules that permit cars that are production ready (which this prototype NSX is), though not in production, taking part. It is not clear whether Honda will eventually be required to put the HSV-010 GT into production in order to continue participating in the series.

The Honda HSV-010 GT will debut in the opening race at Suzuka on March 20th-21st, 2010.

Nope, this was basically made as an NSX successor at first, although as mentioned in a previous post Honda was forced to cancel it due to shifting priorities and fortunes in economy.

R35 GT-R competitor? More like a match for the Lexus LF-A supercar I reckon. That one came out just recently. They're very similar beasts in basic layout: high-output V10 engines, front-engine rear-drive configuration, light weight. But where the "NSX mk2"/roadgoing HSV-010 was aluminum, the LF-A is made out of carbon fiber.

Sounds like a friggin' F1. They stole the engine from B.A.R. and removed 2 cylinders.

Yay! LF-A vs HSV! Place your bets!
