(GMM - Shanghai) A Filipino driver has moved into contention for a Formula One future, after Minardi offered youngster Enzo Pastor a test drive.

At the 'Sportswriters Association Forum' in the Philippines on Tuesday, the 22-year-old confirmed that 'negotiations' were taking place.

Pastor would be the first Filipino in F1.

He added: ''Of course, I'm excited about the prospect. Who wouldn't be?''

The youngster said he hoped to join Paul Stoddart's Faenza-based squad in November, but a full season of testing was more likely than a race drive next year.

Pastor said a Minardi seat is not cheap.

''We're trying to come up with a funding on that,'' he said. ''We're already negotiating with some probable sponsors.''

Pastor's F1 bid looks to be supported by Asian Formula 3 chairman Ed Pena, who said powering a star to the pinnacle of motor sport has 'always' been an objective.

Sana maraming Pinoy companies who want to reach a global market ang mag-sponsor.

Bench (wala naisip ko lang, local kasi)
SM (kaya lang wala namang malls sa ibang F1 venues)
PAL (don't know if they have the money and if PALEA will not make it a big deal)
BPI or some other Ayala corp. (hmmm...)
Metrobank?

Teka, marami ding multinational companies na nago-operate dito na puwede...

Kayang kaya ni Henry Sy (May SM sa China) and Lucio Tan yang sponsorship na yan.. Pwede din Jollibee (Chowking), Globe, and Smart :-)

Kung matuloy ito, sigurado madaming Pinoy ang manunuod na ng F1 dito, this could lead to more support for the local motorsport industry which means more support for the local automobile industry in general.

Hmmm, kailan kaya magkakaroon ng F1 race sa Pinas ?

well habang na testing grounds siya, sponsors will not be a problem, now when minardi gives him a thumbs up for a seat then im sure sponsor will be the one come.

Sana nga may sponsors pero admittedly, there are very few Philippine companies that cater to a global market.

The cost of the Shanghai circuit was something like 300 million dollars over a spread number of years.

Pangarap lang muna ang F1 race dito, parang Olympics...

Tumpak! May aayusin pa tayong budget deficit of 200billion pesos(tama ba?) and may aayusin pa tayong utang na worth 5 trillion this year (last year 3.2trillion)

at terrorism dito sa bansa kailangan pang ayusin.

Unless kung may foreign investor and financiers na gusto magtago ng kanilang kayamanan dito kagaya ng nilalang na nag finance ng skyway natin.

Hindi lang sponsor ang kailangan ni enzo he has yet to acquire a f1 license kung kakarera na siya. Kailangan ata dito 3 times ka sa (either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place) in 3 racing events recognized by the FIA.

oh for the budget i think he needs to get $500,000.00

ok lang, yan ang normal protocol sa f1. But in minardis case its the other way around.

Its the driver who pays them to get a seat in minardi. mahina talaga ang budget ng minardi. next year baka mag pull out ang minardi and jordan because of financial woes. sa jordan nga I think nick hiedfeld offered his services for free to keep his racing career going.

$$$$$$$ ang usapan sa f1.
