February 18th, 2003 09:15 AM #1sir freeman, with your permission i'd cut and paste na lang, tamad akong mag type eh thanks
A 3 vehicle team race set on the natural terrain of the Gugu-Pasig Potrero river in Bacolor, Pampanga (near San Fernando).
I have just received today, invitations for ai.ORG, Diesel Club.ORG and Team X. (Otep, how do I send them to you?)
The race format is simple but unique and exciting. The team of 3 vehicles (driver and co-driver per vehicle) must start and cross the finish line of the 1.7 kilometer course, in between that they are too traverse a 30 meter wide oultined course on the unpredictable pyroclastic surface, water lily carpeted river crossings (low water level), lahar moguls and depressions both natural and man made, plus a cogon field maze (7 feet tall grass)!
Each team will be given one run, which will probably last a minimum of 45 minutes. Each team will be flagged off only minutes apart - hence the wide 30 meter track.
Usual offroad mods, to my mind, won't really be a factor here, as this particular lahar terrain has no respect for lockers, MT tires, suspension lifts, big block engines - when you are bogged down, you are bogged down - period!
This event requires a winch on each vehicle and all the recovery equipment you can muster and load on the 4x4. Forget using a ground anchor, your teammate's vehicle will be your winching/anchor point.
A team's cooperation, communication and recovery skills will play a vital role in this race.
So, whoever mentioned that this is a race for highly modified vehicles was misinformed.
A longer wheelbased vehicle such as a pickup or SUV wagon will be advantageous during the speed sections (diesel or gas powered), with A/T tires or not too agressive M/T tires, plus a reliable winch. 2 way radios are a must. Airconditioning will also be an advantage to keep the participants cool
The beauty of this particular race is it is true to the spirit of offroading, while opening a new field of competitors and vehicles. The ubiquituous modified FJ40 series Land Cruiser used in the usual man-made closed course races here have no advantage here as against a stock Hilux or a Strada.
So, who's GAME?!?!?!?!?!?

Kung tatakas din lang naman tayo, bakit hindi na tayo mag-volunteer as event marshalls. I'm asking Freeman about it.
He's going to send the invites to me.
