    The orange livery is the original color/livery of the first Mclarens driven by Bruce Mclaren. Nowadays, the orange livery is used temporary in the place of an eventual new design livery. The last time Mclaren used the orange livery was back during the pre-season testing for the 1996 season. At that time, Mclaren was shifting from red/white Marlboro livery to the silver/black West.

    I think the reason why the wings on the MP4-21 are now painted bright (almost Ferrari-like) red is to make way for major sponsor Vodafone to drop Ferrari (maybe this year) and to grace the Mclaren's MP4-21 for this season or the MP4-22 by next season.

    IMO, the red paint scheme clearly mars an otherwise elegant classic silver arrows color scheme. I miss the WEST decals already. :D
