saw it... t'was all about downforce, that became nil when the body touched the ground, he ran out of road, hit the wall -- at this point he should be alright, but the front right tire flew and hit his head which caused his death...

it was a fast corner, now I understand the overreaction of michellin

yup. just got off the tv too. the docu was circa 2001 pa pala. but, redhorse, what i can't understand is why mc laren in nurburgring wasn't too concerned with the safety of raikonnen when he was racing on badly flat-spotted tires...

diba it was due to bottoming-out at that curve? ay, yun na nga pala sa post ni red horse. but the real killer was the wheel and suspension piece which hit senna's head. what a way to go.

Aside from the fact that Kimi was almost 3 kilometers away from the podium, I think MacLaren trusts the helmet designs nowadays.

it bottomed out because the tires were underinflated.

btw, if you noticed Kimi's last accident... there was a tire tiedown cable which prevented the tire from flying away.

Yup, Kimi could have been killed in that accident. No podium position was worth the safety risks. They should have brought him in to change his tires and settle for 2nd or 3rd. :praning:

Nope... tire change would've d'qed him, wouldn't it? Besides, I believe it was more of Kimi's decision to go ahead with it rather than let up... when it comes to winning or living, most champions choose the former... they're all a little crazy.

Actually, Raikkonen QUALIFIED for a tire change. Ron Dennis called up Kimi on his radio asking him whether he wants to pit and change the tires.

The FIA also wrote a memo to MacLaren advising them that next time never compromise the safety of their drivers and that they should have forced Raikkonen to pit and change his tires for his safety .... which they didn't.

Ironically, if they are indeed champion material, they should have raced in Indianapolis instead of boycotting it. Raikkonen had a much greater chance of surviving the Indianapolis circuit (by simply slowing down on a single curve) than surviving his flat-spot tires in the German circuit where he crashed.
