    Round 1 - Jerez

Rossi crashes out in the first lap after being hit by someone (Toni Elias I think). Gibernau's curses continue as he had to retire because of mechanical failure. The Spaniard, switching to Ducati this year, seemed strong to fight for a win here. Another Spaniard, 250cc champion Dani Pedrosa, made a really good impression in his first Moto GP race, challenging for the win against eventual winner Loris Capirossi in the middle stages. The latter responded well, until Pedrosa gave up to settle for second place. Nicky Hayden completes the podium, followed by Toni Elias and another rookie, Australian Casey Stoner, slightly ahead of Kawasaki rider Shinya Nakano.

In the 250 cc race, Jorge Lorenzo claims his first victory, while another Spaniard won the 125.

    Round 2 - Losail, Qatar

Rossi wins his 54th Moto GP title, equalling that of legendary rider Doohan. But it was no runaway victory. Nicky Hayden made a great challenge, overtaking him in the last laps, but the Italian was just too good, passing the American again. Another rider to give credit to is Casey Stoner, who started in pole position in just his second race in the premiere class. His 5th place finish proved that he only needs more experience. Loris Capirossi, winner in Jerez, finishes 3rd behind Hayden, while new Ducati teammate Sete Gibernau finally shrugged off his bad luck and completed the race in 4th.

In the 250 class, Jorge Lorenzo collects his second successive win after a hard-fought battle with Andrea Dovizioso.

    le mans,

rossi have an engine problem during the middle of the race while he was leading, eventually giving the lead to pedrossa. pedrossa having some traction problems due to his tires are being passed by melandri for 1st and then by capirossi for 2nd.

do you think rossi can still make it for the championship? rossi is still lucky that there are a lot riders fighting for the championship so the points are well distributed.

may result na pala. second si rossi pero nag collide si hayden at pedrosa. so rossi is now ahead of hayden by 8 points if i'm not mistaken. correct me if i'm wrong. galing talaga ni Rossi...

what a race for tony ellias! grabe from 11 in the grid siya pa nanalo. gulat si rossi nung unang overtake ni ellias sa kanya. grabe ung last lap. photo finish! ahead si rossi sa last long right curve, tapos nag slingshot na lang si elias for the win! grabe!

Even with a slower bike, he can win races and world championships. Idol talaga!

Hayden led the championship for a long time simply because of bike consistency. He only won 2 races and his collision with Pedrosa was his only DNF. Rossi failed to score in 2 GPs because of mechanical and tire failure, in that order.

I'm also happy for Toni Elias having won the Portugal race.

Mga Rossi fans dito... talo bata natin.. sya naman ang nag crash ngayon. si hayden finished 3rd on valencia and he takes the 2006 MotoGp World Championship.. next year ulit... by the way Troy Bayliss won the race. Rossi was 13th.

Didn't see the race, puro kasi walang kwentang soccer games ang nilalabas instead of the replay eh.

Anyway, everyone but the Repsol Honda Team was saddened as Rossi's reign ends, technically that is. No doubt he's still by far the best one out there. We have to give it to a consistent bike for Hayden, once mincemeat to Valentino. I have to say the American was consistent himself, didn't take any risks and made sure he finished all the races. But at the last race, it was more of Rossi losing the championship than Hayden winning it. Had he not crashed, he would have finished good enough to secure the trophy. I'm happy though that the resurgent Troy Bayliss finally had his very first MotoGP victory here.

The story here is like Schumacher's last year. Their car just wasn't good enough, so no matter what he does, he could only win without the Michelin runners (USGP). But like Michael, Valentino's greatness will never falter that easily. The bikes will be 800 cc next year, so it's an all-new ball game for everyone, and I'm pretty sure Rossi will win the title again.
