Under the 997 body is believed to be the new platform of the next generation 911 (998).

It has wider tracks (need for fender extensions on the mule's 997 body) and possibly a slightly longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs.

Is the new platform based on one of those 'composite metal' frames that offers better structural integrity?

Some some years ago when my great grand father was still alive, 911 look like 911...

And until now, nothing has changed. It still looks a Beetle rip-off. :hihihi:

I wouldn't really call it a rip-off since Erwin Komenda was involved with the development of the original Beetle, Porsche 356, 550 Spyder, Carrera GTS(904) and original 911.
    Who is Erwin Komenda?
He was Ferdinand Porsche's chief designer (later he became head of Porsche's bodywork construction department).
He was responsible for the design and styling of the original Beetle and Porsche 356.
Erwin Komenda's last work was with the development of the 1st gen Porsche 911, he was responsible for the body construction/structure and was also involved with the car's design (911's designer was Ferdinand Alexander Porsche).

There might be some similarities between the two, but I don't think anyone would mix up a VW Beetle and a Porsche 911.

    current 2009 911 (997 facelift)

Nice evolution of the original 911's design.

These are the first pictures of the next generation Porsche 911 (998) Turbo, that will replace the current 911(997). Even though it was raining hard today and the pictures are not in the best quality we can see that the front lights are standing more upright compared to the 997.

Side mirrors are moved from the side window corner to the side of the door. Don’t get confused of the rear lights as these are just temporary.

Next generation 911 Turbo is expected in 2011. It will feature the same flat-six engine that surely gets a power boost and the new PDK dual-clutch gearbox.

Stay tuned as we are sure that this is not the first sighting of the next generation 911 Turbo before Porsche makes it official

    Additional photos...

The 998 appears to sit lower compared to the current 997 and the wheel arches look bigger.

    Now with much less camo!

Here are the latest and some of the best shots yet of the next-generation 2012 Porsche 911.

Porsche has been testing prototypes of the next 911 for nearly two years now and this current set of pics reveals both cabrio and coupe prototypes wearing far less camo than we've seen before.

Of course, the 911 is staying close to its iconic shape, but these prototypes show new details, particularly at the rear with a new design line between the set of lights. There's also a new adjustable spoiler there and we can see how it is up in some of the photos.

For improved efficiency, the next-generation 911 will come with a stop/start system and regenerative braking as a standard feature.

Engines will also be upgraded, beginning with a revised 3.6 liter flat six producing 365 bhp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque while the Carrera S variant will be fitted with an updated 3.8 liter 6-cylinder power plant featuring 415 bhp (309 kW / 421 PS) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque. The next-generation 911 will be available with either a six-speed manual or the seven-speed PDK.
