The U.S. military has been monitoring a suspected Chinese surveillance ballon that has been hovering over the northern U.S. for the past few days, and military and defense leaders have discussed shooting it out of the sky, according to two U.S. officials and a senior defense official.
“The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is over the continental United States right now,” Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told NBC News. “We continue to track and monitor it closely.”

    (NBC)

President Biden was briefed on the Chinese spy balloon and asked for military options. The US Secretary of Defense convened the leadership of the Department of Defense yesterday, and officials discussed the possibility of shooting it down. Senior generals advised against the idea "due to the risk to the safety and security of people in the field."

Yesterday, flights from Billings Logan Airport in Montana grounded. In Montana there is a Malmstrom base, where nuclear missiles are stored in silo-type storage facilities. "It is clear that the intention of this balloon is for surveillance. The current flight path does carry it over a number of sensitive sites," said senior American officials.

The US State Department has summoned a Chinese diplomat to deliver a "very clear message" about the spy balloon that is now over the US.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry expresses regret for the intrusion of the spy balloon into US territory, says that it is a civilian balloon for meteorological purposes and says that Beijing and Washington will continue cooperation and coordination to deal with the case.

BREAKING: The Biden administration decided to postpone Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s upcoming trip to Beijing after detecting a Chinese surveillance balloon over Montana.

US preparing for war against china

    article in japanese

    <独自>米が中距離ミサイル配備打診 対中バランス改善 - 産経ニュース

It was revealed on the 4th that the U.S. government is asking about deploying intermediate-range missiles to Japan, which it plans to deploy on the first island chain, including the Japanese archipelago. The long-range hypersonic weapon (LRHW) being developed by the United States and the ground-launched version of the Tomahawk cruise missile have been mentioned as candidates. Together with the standoff missiles that Japan plans to deploy as a counterattack capability (attack capability against enemy bases), Japan and the United States intend to counter "anti-access/area denial (A2/AD)" capabilities, including China's medium-range missile network.
The deployment location has not yet been decided, but a Japanese government official said, "Kyushu and other places are assumed." The deployment method is also being considered, including a rotation method that patrols the Indo-Pacific region.
