And barely one month after Cory’s oathtaking, she was slowly easing out Doy from her inner circle.

The all-out support of the Church for Leni Robredo, with unhidden hostility toward the son of Ferdinand Marcos, even using repeatedly such harsh and unkind words as “son of the notorious dictator,” did not sit well with the young but enlightened electorate. The priests and the nuns seem to have forgotten why the fall of the Bastille happened in France.
To the French people, the Bastille represented the corrupt powers of the nobility with the full blessings of the clergy cheerfully mired in decadence and corruption.
The philosophical ideas of Marcus Tullius Cicero and Jean Jacques Rousseau fueled the revolutionary fire. In old Rome, Cicero had promoted the restoration of the original Republican values to a state whose nobility seemed in full enjoyment of the worldly living.
Rousseau, who died a short time before the French Revolution, argued for a civil society that would be voluntarily formed by its citizens and wholly governed by reference to their will. Rousseau proposed that a man in his natural state, without interference of defective laws, was a noble savage whose natural desire was for simple justice.
Rousseau’s philosophy vastly influenced the thinking of the nobility, the middle class, the poor, the shopkeepers, but hardly the clergy. The nobles themselves wanted to curtail the belief that the king’s power to govern comes directly from God, hence, the expression of the divine right of king
The Bastille represented the corrupt powers of the nobility with the blessings of the clergy. Here, the political prisoners, as well as ordinary criminals, were left to rot, although it is true those who have money could buy a more comfortable existence.
At the time of the fall of the Bastille, there were only seven prisoners released from its chambers, but its destruction nevertheless became the symbol of the end of King Louis’ power to quash the rising tide of discontent and resentment among the millions of the middle class and the poor against the royal family and the Catholic church.
The bloody aftermath of 14 July 1789 was fueled by generations of rage against the status quo and the leaders from the middle class, idealistic and otherwise, who jockeyed for power. Trials became mockeries of justice, and some of the early leaders died without defense on the blade of the guillotine.
It is a universal phenomenon, that where the Church interferes with the affairs of the State, the State suffers, fails and falls. It takes only a short period for the State to stand again from where it fell; but it takes generations for the Church to recover its rapport with the people or never at all

Russia suffered interference by the clergy in the State affairs of its empire and suffered a devastating scandal. Rasputin, the Russian monk, endeared himself to the imperial family, particularly Tsarina Alexandria, and through the rasputinic intrigue that he spread about the royal family and the mundane pleasure that he brought with the Tsarina; the Russian empire was shaken and suffered. Rasputin was assassinated by the Russian ultra-conservatives.
During the 1986 snap elections, the main contender for the presidency against Ferdinand was Doy Laurel, not Cory. But according to Doy, the Church intervened. He said, the Catholic hierarchy said that only Cory could unite the opposition party and the Filipino people against President Marcos.
Doy could have been a better alternative than Cory had Doy won the presidency against Ferdinand, because Ferdinand was close to Doy’s father, Dr. Jose Laurel, who served as president during the Japanese occupation.
What transpired was history. Cory became the 11th President of the Republic of the Philippines. And barely one month after Cory’s oathtaking, she was slowly easing out Doy from her inner circle.
Laurel chose to break away from Cory after the “God Save the Queen” attempt. After visiting military camps to ascertain sentiment toward government policies, he expressed support for the rebellious soldiers and resigned from his position.

dati mas maimpluwensiya ang simbahan
dati mas nirerespeto ng mga tao ang simbahan
pero dahil sa pagiging politikal ng simbahan madami na-turn off

- hindi martial law pero sabi ng mga pink it will be martial law under bbm dahil nag martial law tatay niya
- pinipilit ng mga pink may dayaan sa election
- wala pinatay na kritiko pero base sa nagawa ng tatay sabi ng mga pink mangyayari din daw under bbm
so ung negative view ng mga pink for PH under bbm is enough to justify a revolution now
pre-emptive
